1. [ Circuits ] I got a lazy New Year's Day afternoon to burn and went on to play with half-dead CR123s. I got three BattStns from my Mag/V4T/DD and loaded them into a Balrog-3 body. I tested them repeated both on a KL1/SWAK/700 and with Aleph3/TWOK/DB917. KL1 puts out a 'moon' mode brightness, while the A3 still has a very good and bright beam -- more like a 10-ohm low output. Why is there a big difference? Is the A3/DB now in direct drive? What is KL1's circuit doing? Boosting or on Buck? Overall voltage was 8.4volts for the 3, but I don't know how much capacity is left.

2. [ Wiz2 and DB] So if KL1 is relatively inefficient, how far can Wiz2 go in the above situation. I know the Wiz2 is limited only up to 6v, but assuming only 2 cells were used? How much heat does Wiz2 produce compared with Downboy, assuming both are rated at 700ma?

3. [ Reflectors ] I loaded 2xPila150's on the MagV4T and found that it's brighter that my L4. I like the large hotspot of the Mag and hates the dispersed pattern of the L4. Would an Aleph-3 with a LuxV/LE have similar beam pattern as the Mag; and the L4 would be similar of Aleph-2

4. [ LuxV ] What would be my maximum LuxV current to produce a long running and not a hotstick light? The Mag/V4T/DD is quite hot after about 5 minutes of continuous use -- and it has a large tube and head/heatsink.

Please share with me some insights and enlightenment. Currently, I'm inclined that my KL1 needs replacement with a Wiz2-based Lux3 rated at 600ma, while the L4 with a LuxV-DB1000.

Question 4:
A BB500 in a 2x123 light with a 27mm head should be a good compromise.
The L4 is about 630mA with a smaller head and gets hot.

Bernie,
Thanks for the suggestion.

Also found a lot of good info from your postings on the Lux 4, W bin, 3x123, A1 thread now running. --> A3 with a LuxV would be a serious contender vs the U2. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

I have a DB917 LuxV engine running on 3x123 in the Aleph3 head:
... which unknown but good bin.
It outperformes my (!) U2, but not by a large margin. You'd need the 38mm head to outthrow it, the 27mm is a nice medium flood (see above), but won't throw further than the U2.

From "Customs" posting, Orion has this relevant comment on his Tri-Lux Maglight
Even with three TWOKS and reflectors, the throw of my Maglight using the Maglight reflector and one Lux III still out throws the 3 TWOKS. It's just really hard to beat that Maglight reflector on throw. Now, the side spill is another matter. Without question, this 3 TWOK setup has the most side spill than any other light of mine. The next closest would by my W2W Mock Space Needle.

I only need to bridge these two comments and will have a great idea how my future light would look like. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

DON... Is there by any chance you have an Aleph-Tri-light in the oven cooking?

Johny,

Someday, I want to do a quad mod for myself with 4 of the 20 mm reflectors but no plan for an Aleph multi LED head at the moment. I have some other designs taking all of my time and energy that I can find!!
