This is my first time doing any review, so I dont have much experience. I recently purchased a couple cheap lights at Dealextreme.com, and I thought I should put up some reviews =]. I will also compare these to my Surefire E2d for laughs.

First up is the 8 led 1AA aluminum light from dealextreme.com Link

It is really small and only uses 1AA battery. It is fairly bright considering how cheap it is and the fact that it only uses 1AA. It is made out of aluminum and is actully made fairly well for a 2 dollar light =].

Pros: Cheap!!, nicely made, small, light weight, uses cheap common AA's

Cons: Not that bright, not water proof, uses a twist switch instead of a clicky

Overall I would give it 3 out of 5. Next

Next we have the 9 led 3AAA flashlight. It is just a tiny bit taller and a lot fatter then the 1AA. Here is the link

It is also made out of aluminum but it feels like the construction is a bit worse. This light uses 3AAA batteries inside a carrier, which feels fairly cheap. this light is brighter then the 1aa, but it is bigger and uses more batteries. Not a bad light at all esspecially considering the price. I also want to add that the clicky switch feels really well made ( almost as good as my E2d's!!)

Pros: Cheap!! uses common batteries, Bright, Clicky Switch!!

Cons: Cheaply made, bigger then the other light and uses more batteries

Overall I will give it 2 and a half out of 5

Next up is 1 Watt LED Flashlight heres the link

This is actully suprisngly bright esspically for the price!. It is almost as bright at my 3 watt dorcy 3AAA flashlight, and a bit dimmer then my 3AA Maglite LED ( the mag and dorcy dont have fresh batteries) Any way, this light is also made out of aluminum and uses a battery carrier (better quality then the 9led carrier) I am really impressed by this light since it is like $3 or $6 with shipping.

Pros: Really cheap for the amount of light it puts out, smaller then the Dorcy which also uses a 3AAA carrier, nice feel, nice machining, nice clicky!

Cons: Not really that much but the led is not perfectly in the center of the reflector.

Over all i would give it a 4 out of 5 =] and i recommend it for cheap gifts and give aways.

Here is a size comparson of all these lights to some of mine.

Up next is the beam shots in the order of 1AA, then 9Led 3AAA, and then the 1 watt 3AAA and the last one is my E2d for no reason what so ever.

Re: Couple reviews enjoy (beam shots and pics)

Nice!! That 1 Watt looks pretty good, almost looks brighter than my LumaPower LM301 which is using a 1 watt Luxeon..

I might have to pick up the 1 watt just because it's decent and cheap, like you stated!..:grin2:

Re: Couple reviews enjoy (beam shots and pics)

It apears that I made a small mistake... the pictuers of the beamshots on the wall are not in the order I said, I forgot to post up the beam shot of the 8led 1AA light, so the order is 9 led, 1 watt and the Surefire E2d. Sorry bout that.

NVM its all there

The output is great on the DX 1W, with alkali it is similar to the hotspot lux of Fenix 1LT-high on nimh. The DX has a brighter spill though.

Can you post a pic of the 3AAA carriers? I am thinking that an 18500 lion with a spacer would make a nice battery option.
BTW nice review.

Is it easily possible to open the head of the 1W for modding it?

Tom

Yes, it's very easy to open to change star. However, in order to change reflector you have to remove the plastic lens glued from the font.

The light is fitted with a ZS20HBA ZhongSheng btw.

Thank you for the reply.

If it's a luxeon-like emitter a SSC P4 should work with the standard reflector.
Proper focusing should be possible by screwing up or down the head …

Do you have the opportunity to measure the current (mA)?

I think I measured 0.4A on fresh alkali and 0.2A on nimh. There is no driver in this light though.

Hope this helps.

Gitlaa,

To get to the star you will need to use some needle nose pliers. Just place the tips of the pliers into the indentions on the back of the heat sink, the one in your last picture, and unscrew.

Would anybody be interested in a another review of the dealextreme fake u2? cause I just recived one and was wondering if anyone wants another review on it?
