I'm starting to like these lights, but do any of these lights besides the one that uses 3AAA, 2-123 & 18650 use protected 18650's

Sometimes the DX site says it can take 18650s but the review says it wouldn't:thinking:.....Anyway do any CPF members actually use a 18650 in a romisen light.

C'mon some of you guys must have got an M4,E4,G4 or R4 and tried to cram an 18650 in it.I know the K4 will take 18650's but that light seems a little chunky.
DON:devil:

There must be 15 or so Romisen lights that take 18650's on DX, you can see for yourself. It'll say if it can take them in the title or description.

The RC-G4 takes protected 18650 cells. Nicely made with a forward clicky, but it is only a one-mode light. I put a 2-mode switch and a GITD silicone cover in mine. Nice tint and brighter than expected.

no idea how reliable the runtime chart is but i ordered one via DX on the strength of it :)

That runtime chart might be on the money. The romisen lights I have don't push the led very hard(I like that) if I need a bright light I'll use a hotwire. If you could please post if your 18650 fits and what type it is.
THANKS DON

The RC-F4 in gray or black only takes 2XCR123A, unprotected 2X16340, some protected 2X16340(AW's OK), and unprotected 1X17xxx. Ultrafire protected 2X16340, 1X17xxx, and 1X18650 don't fit.

Thanks for that specific info on the RC-G4. You guys should take a look at bessiebenny's thread... nicely done!

I have gotten email responses back from Kyle at DX regarding several of their lights. Why not ask him? See ya...

Can you tell me which specific unprotected 1x17xxx do fit? A sku/url please!!

If you look into the battery tube from the tailcap end, you will see a stepdown about 1 cm inside. The battery tube is actually in two pieces, and you can unthread the 2cm segment with the antiroll polygon feature from the main section of the tube. My measurements of the tube in one light indicate that it has an inside diameter of 16.85mm. I would not be surprised if the diameter varies +/- 0.05 - 0.10mm. My light had a small ridge at the tailcap end of the main tube opening that I removed with a little 400 grit silicone carbide sandpaper. After doing this, all of my protected 16340 (RCR123A) cells fit. My Ultrafire protected 17670 cells are 16.95mm in diameter, and rolling them to align the segments and PCB did little to remedy this. I don't have any unprotected 17670 cells, but they should be narrower than the protected cells. Unfortunately, different batches of cells from the same manufacturer vary in diameter, and it is hard to be certain which will fit and which will not. I would recommend using protected 16340 cells.
