I know. I messed up.

So I had my old Streamlight SL-35X that was given to me by a friend who had long lost the charger. So I've been trying different combinations to see what kind of batteries would work. I've been using 5 old Radio Shack NiCad D-cells. They worked okay, but quickly went dead. The other day, I took a piece of PVC pipe and wrapped tape around the ends so it would fit 6 alkaline AA's. Hey, it looks good! Nice and bright. I left it on for, maybe 30 minutes, to see how long it would last. I was doing some other things and not watching, when I noticed it was out. Hrm. I opened the tailcap and the VERY WARM batteries slid out, and they were obviously leaking! Their labels were wet under the plastic coating. I looked in the tube and acid had leaked out into the light, so the whole mess went into the trash and on to flashlight heaven.

If I were to guess, I'd say the relatively high output lamp allowed the batteries to discharge at a higher-than-normal (and faster than SAFE!) rate. Does that sound about right?

Not to thread hijack but I've got an SL-35X that someone gave me that has some stuck cells. I'd like to get it running but everything I've tried is coming up lacking.

Anyone have a way to completely disassemble it? If not anyone want a large paperweight?

If the 35X is anything like the 20X (and I'm betting it is) then it can be completely disassembled and cleaned. All you need is a new 5 cell battery pack. You need a 5 D NiMH or NiCd pack. www.batterieswholesale.com can make you up a pack for this light, I bet. Or you could buy a stock pack from www.brightguy.com probably, or from some other SL dealer.

Streamlight doesn't show the SL-35X anymore on their site...has it been discontinued in some way?
