Search for a new reflector

Hey all,
I'm looking for a reflector for my modded m@g. I'm looking for a "spot" beam, more for throw than anything. It needs to be camless and able to handle the heat or 900+ lumens.

Having trouble finding reflectors "instock" and ready to ship. Currently I have a light orange peel and I don't like the beam. It is somewhat oval and throw is compromised.
Thanks

Mike,

What lamp are you running? From your post, I assume one of the Welch Allyn lamps or perhaps the HOLA ROP.

If so, the most throw results when a lamp is focused so that the tightest focus is somewhat oval. That is a result of the shape of the filament. (It isn't a point source, but a wound linear filament, so the focus can't be round unless you diffuse it a lot with orange peel or stipple).

It is generally acknowledged that smooth reflectors throw farther, but create more artifact. Of those commonly available, the MagCharger probably throws the farthest, but you have to remove the reflector from the carrier and use the stock reflector as the carrier in a regular mag.

Light-edge.com appears to have mirror finish in stock.

I recommend fivemega's DEEP BEZEL. It's not available right now but watch for it on modding BST as they pop up occasionally.

What bulb are you using?

Bill, I have not tried the Magcharger reflector, have you compared FM's deep bezel reflector to the Magcharger reflector?

I haven't, the deep bezel was such a limited run that I didn't get one. From the pics I've seen, it might be better, but it is unobtanium until he does another run, if he does another run.

Thanks for the quick help. Light Edge is out of stock on the mirror finish, oh well I'll have to check back. The bulb is what Juan puts in his Borealis lights. I don't have it with me so I'm not totally sure.

Hi Mike,
The mirror finish (smooth) will show the shadow of the filament at 8 and 10 and at 2 and 4 o' clock.

See this picture from Cerbera.

At left is the Light Stippled reflector and at right is the smooth reflector.

The shadow will dissapear at long range, but in my experience the Orange Peel reflector is not much of a difference in throw.
Like Bill said, the filament is horizontal and quite long and the beam center will be oval for that reason.

You will have to get the Light or Middle stipple to get a round beam and that will curtail the throw.

Best regards
Juan C.

FM's deep bezel is a VERY hot seller, for good reason.

I'm glad I stayed up late. I was tempted to get two, but I knew many others would want one and they'd be gone in a day. I had two from the first run, sold one to a CPF'er in need. Later found I'd want another with AW's Li-ion C cells coming out.
