lux, we may be on two different pages.

this thread was not started about diebold or anyone else compromising the accuracy/reliability of wilki.

this thread was started to highlight the systematic campaign of disinformation by corporates, brought out by a new data mining tool.

looking at a small set of data, it's hard to discern what's happening.
but when ALL of the edits are taken as a whole and separated by IP.
Patterns of what corporates are trying to achieve becomes apparent.

it's never been about accuracy or lack of by wilki.

I'm specifically addressing the topic objection about Diebold/CIA manipulation which everyone gets all excited about, like Wiki is otherwise reliable.

OK, yeah we have been on two different pages then, sorry.

If I'm back on the same page with you, the same sources will just use proxy servers, or one of the many programs that hide/anonymize/spoof your IP. Any MIS engineer at a company like Diebold....or God forbid, the CIA....has access to at least the typical cracker tools...of which hiding your IP is "cracking 101" They will just shift away from their own corporate IP ranges now that has been exposed.

It is illustrated by the 2nd post at the link you provided in your Post #1:

The news coverage of this development presents a misleading picture of what goes on at Wikipedia. Ironically, the so-called "anonymous" edits are the ones that provide an IP address, making their authorship potentially known to the public. The REAL anonymous edits are those made by established Wikipedia users, who typically edit under screen names that conceal both their real identities, and their IP addresses. The most harmful propaganda and disinformation emanating from Wikipedia is the work of these established editors, not the so called "anonymous" or IP number edits.

evidently most folks don't understand what data mining is.

condensed version is taking a HUGE set of data, then applying tools that allow sorting of that information by user defined parameters. this exposes patterns of data that would have been buried within mountain of raw data.
