Seoul Semiconductors Z-Power LED Emitter (U-bin)

Nice! However someone mentioned a while back (when they first got the T-bins) that these weren't using an actual Seuol star and therefore could have poor thermal properties vs. a genuine Seuol star/emitter package (like the ones being sold by PhotonFanatic), any thoughts?

just ordered 2 P4 and one cree star

so will see shortly

Still isn't a genuine factory star, hence is likely to have similar thermal performance to the aftermarket Cree stars - ie not very good. ISTR the suggestion of ~10 degrees/W. In contrast the factory star is only 1.6 degrees/W.

I'm glad to see that they're now listing a color bin but would like to see what the voltage bin is and better yet a pci of the bin label as AW and Photonfanatic have displayed.

Ordered 5 myself. Going to install them in the 1 Watt ELLYs. Most likely need to sand down the reflector in the Elly to make the the LED fit.

They'll be fine if you're using it for mass lighting but for a premium build or mod you'll want to know the bin. It's a damn fine price don't get me wrong.

shipping from far east is usually 7-10 days. that is if they ship out right away. certain not fast, but not slow either. what takes the longest is shipping from Canada.

now you're talking a month :D

Don't you mean in a month or two? :lolsign: I think shipping from them can take a long time,

Yeah, these won't go into any of my good lights, but will be useful for upgrading some of my inexpensive DX lights (like the Elly, etc.).

At that price it's worth it just to experiment with...I bought a few!

Would the Seoul or the Cree they're offering be better in a Q3 running on a RCR123? The existing luxeon is a TYAH modded by Milky.

I plan on using these in a few of my lights where the aftermarket Crees (also using the stars from DX) didn't work out to well. It also looks like the seoul LEDs are easier to remove from the star to get at the loose emitter as well, and I plan to upgrade a couple of lights as well where the stars won't work.

I was hoping these were actual emitters, but seems like they're stars.

2xTrinity - are the emitters epoxied to the star? You said they're easy to remove...how easy is easy? For Lux's, I've had to cut the star with my dremel in order to remove the emitter safely (destroyed a nice SXOH to learn this).

I have one of the SSC 'T' bin emitters and it is just soldered to the star and the base is 'stuck' on with the thermal compound. There is no actual glue used. It pulls off rather easily using my fingers.

I've had the same experience with legitimate Lumileds Luxeon I stars where once I desoldered the leads, the emiiter was simple to pull off. The last time I did that, I swapped the Lux1 with an SSCP4. I did use Artic Alumina to secure the SSCP4 to the Luxeon Star though. And like I said before, these are cheap enough to experiment with...whether you use it with the star it comes with or end up popping the emitter off the star. Personally I think it's funny how some are so quick to be nitpicky about a situations like this when someone is selling a product for much lesser than everyone else. Personally I'd hold off judgement until many have gotten the product in their hands, put it to use and then see what happens. Usually Kyle and his crew at DX have always put in a good effort to provide a decent to good product at a very low cost. In my book, it doesn't get any better in terms of what you could expect from a dealer. I will say that the guys in Asia do have an unfair advantage businesswise, but as a consumer in what is an ever growing global economy--I won't hesitate to give my patronage to whoever can provide me good service along with the best possible prices.

And while on that note, I'll also tip my hat off to MattK's Battery Junction and LED Supply as they've both provided me excellent customer service along with quality products... :goodjob:

So as I said, DX's SSCP4s are most certainly worth a try and won't break your wallet...

Rock On Dudes!

Yeah, I ordered a few... or nine

I figure I'll de-solder a few and throw em on a block of copper as I construct my lightbrick. The way I see it, even if they aren't "official" stars :p , $7.75 for a bare U-bin emitter, including free shipping, is a great price.

Hi MattK,
I'm confused here. Dealextreme specifically says these are U-bin SSC P4 LED with 3.7V. Why are you calling them "unbinned"? :huh2:

Or do you just mean they are not hand "selected" premium ones?!

Anyway, at $7.75 shipped, I think they are a bargain(even if the color is not perfect white). I'll find out in a few week when I have them in my hands :naughty:
