I've seen some preety good Ebay Deals on the Surefire G2 torchlight here in Australia and also from Australia. Also correct me if I'm wrong but the G2 is a Xenon Gas filled lamp in which they say produces a white beam, but how white is this compared to that of say a Cree LED in a LED torch. I've used torches in the past which has a orange/yellow glow in which I'm assuming is an incandesent type bulb.

I would like to see what the tint of a Xenon is like and is it's tint similar to that of LED.

The G2 is indeed a xenon incandescent. Tint will be whiter than your cheap grocery store incandescent but it's not going to be as white as an LED. Most LEDs are harsh white (or even bluish white), you will find the warmth of the light from the G2 pleasing.

(Note: I don't have a G2 myself, I'm going from beamshots seen on CPF.)

In would second zipplets comment. I could post a photo from a Surefire 6P which uses the same bulb and an LED but unless your monitor and my camera are calibrated they will always look a bit different in real life

There is a seller on ebay selling the G2L (LED versions with metal head) for a good price and with fair international shipping. I think, but don't quote me on it, that the incan version has the nitrolon head, so if you're ever thinking of putting a drop-in in the G2, it might be worth your while to spend a little more on the metal head version G2L for better heat management.

I don't know the seller, but the feedback is very good.

I'm not sure we're allowed to post direct ebay links, but I can PM it to you if you want.

Get a plain 'ol reliable G2. It's much nicer to hold in the winter and the P60L just doesn't do it for many people. Put in a Malkoff M60L and you get a throwy bright light with no heat issues and the toughness of all Nitrolon.

At the cheapest Surefire, theres no reason why any flashaholic should not have this in his or her collection. I bought it about a month ago and love it. I just purchased a R2 Drop in from Tung and that should make the light even better.

The G2 is a must have! The nitrolon body is very grippy, durable (no paint scratches either!) and if you're holding it in cold conditions it's much nicer to hold than a metal bodied light. Plus, it will accept any P60 sized LED drop in if you choose that route. Just be aware you shouldn't run the high output LEDs in a nitrolon bezel G2 for extended times, as heat dissipation isn't as good as a metal bezel and bodied light. +1 on the white comparison mentioned above, but some LEDs do have nice tint.

the G2 was my first SF. it is what it is. it is a workhorse of a light, handy, and inexpensive by SF standards. it's a lot of light for the money. i have LED dropins but i like the xenon bulbs the most and it "shines" like a new penny just the way it is.
i have an HO-4 from lighthound in mine now that really turns it into a screamer.

Yea, the xenon G2 and G3 are great coat pocket lights in the wintertime. Warmer times of the year I prefer the metal bodied lights though.

Yup....no reason not to....I have a G2 Tan and I also use my G2Z quite a bit....good rugged all-around lights.

What a silly question, of course you should. And then you can add a Malkoff M60L and/or M60LL (buy 2 G2's, 1 for each!), to finish what SF started (thanks Zenster, I had to steal this!)!

My .02 FWIW YMMV

Go for the G2L. The G2 comes with a nitrolon bezel, alu for the G2L, better heat dissipation and pyrex lens on the alu bezels.

is this pyrex on aluminum G2L bezel positive? just wanna clarify as it is not stated in SF website. thanks!

The window on the Al 6P head is most definitely Pyrex. I thought I remembered something about the G2L's with the Al head and a Lexan lens. Maybe the early Al head/G2l's came with them or something. I can't remember exactly what it is but I do remember reading something about it before...

I remember reading about that recently as well. Lexan is lighter and probably works better with the polymer version of the G2. With that said, it's best to call Surefire to get a confirm on that.

I always have a P60 Xenon and Primaries ready to go. 60 Lumens of soft warm incandescent light can be surprisingly useful.

I just picked up a TOP striker and am using it to host the P60... like this setup a lot.

I seriously doubt they would make special runs of Lexan aluminum heads just for the G2L series, it should be pyrex. But I could be wrong!!!!!!!!!! I did see my first Yellow anodized aluminum G2L head on a G2L-YL the other day, thought they were only making them black, maybe they just used up old 6P stock on early metal head nitrolon lights. Must have started production on colored heads now!

Lexan aluminum heads just doesn't make sense though if you think about it.

But then they also seem to have gotten rid of the retaining ring notches on the new G2's very recently so.... you just never know with Surefire.

The G2L-YL has been out for a while now. SureFire just recently added the G2L-TN and G2L-OD to their line-up
