.. I have several Li-Ion batteries in 14500,16340,17670 and 18650 sizes.

They have various grey, black, blue, purple shrink wrap covers on them.

Some don't even have descriptive labeling on them telling what they are, what capacity, protected or Non, who made them, or who's brand they are.

Is the color meant to be a method of telling the difference between Protected and Non-protected ? Was that the original intent ?

Should it be ???

Why can't there be more of a standardized system for this ? Rechargeable batteries should be labeled better.

Sharpie indellible marking wears off quickly and stick-on labels increase diameter and prevent insertion sometimes. We need better labeling from our Li-Ion battery suppliers.

So - is the wrap color any more than random choice by the maker or seller ?

Do the rest of you have any concerns about this ?

TMG ... :poke:

It is pretty worrying that Li-ion cells have no distinctive marking. One of these days, someone is going to put a Li-ion cell into a 3.0v LiFePO4 charger and cause an explosion.

The AW cells that came with my Raw Ti and Wee Ti have the chemistry and size clearly indicated in black laser-marking on the plastic.
