Newbie looking for the simplest upgrade for a 2d M@G...
Here's what i have to work with:

M@g 2d of course
2-spare 18650 Li-ions
Simple hand tools & soldering iron

I may get directed to the LED forum, but I'm thinking theres probably a xenon or some type of low voltage bulb in the pr13 package that could be driven to say 8.4volts and not drain my batteries too much (maybe a runtime of @least 30min...plus i do NOT want to have to buy another reflector or lense...i want to use all stock parts for now...i can make holders for the li-ions, no problem

My goal is to make a noticably brighter light without having to replace everything to make a handheld carlight that can light fires :naughty: like, say a Mag85/ROP...i'm gonna take little bitty baby steps right now :D

The ROP low bulb will work fine in the stock reflector and lens provided the lens is clean, and you limit continuous runs to a few minutes or less.

If you won't want to have any limitations on continuous runs due to heat, play around with 5 and 6 cell rated PR bulbs as others have suggested :)

So if i decided to go with a ROP low and changed my mind to do a ROP high later, would it be better to get the borafloat lens instead? will there be more transmission loss than the UCL? and will i have to replace the stock reflector as well?

With the ROP Low the stock plastic reflector is good for 7 minutes and the lens 30 minutes, in case you wish to "try before you buy" the rest.

There is no noticeable difference in output between borofloat, UCL or even a $1.31 cheapie lens, but the UCL has an expensive-optics appearance and the borofloat seems more resistant to chipping at the edges from overtightening the bezel. None of them will have any problems handling the ~31w ROP High.

With the addition of a metal reflector, and a couple unprotected D cells, the ROP High in a 2D Mag can run about 1 hour (and the Low nearly two hours) in a pinch, but be aware that overdischarging those expensive batteries will destroy them.

ok....ordered the pelican bulbs, borafloat lens, and alu cam/camless smo reflector....now i play the waiting game

Thanks for your help guys...i'll let you know how it turns out!
