simple edc for elderly...?

i want to get my mom a new edc. currently she has a xeno E03 with warm tint XM-L. she only uses it on med, which is its initial "on" mode.
she has bad vision, bad memory, and cant seem to understand any complicated UIs.
she can use the mini maglite LED i gave her.... but doesnt grasp the bezel tight/loose UI. maybe because she cant actually see the effect that happens? she also isnt very adept at cycling modes.

uses:
walking around in the dark, indoors and outdoors. so no more than 50 lumens is required i think.
close range, walking on dark sidewalks, and around the house at night.

requirements:
super simple UI - 1 or 2 modes only. i was thinking of a quark tactical because it can be programmed. but the bezel loose/tight UI might be a problem. :duh2:

smallish size. no bigger than a compact 2x123 light (fenix PD30 is ok, surefire 6P is too big). i load her lights with primaries. single AA or cr123 is good too. not too important really... as long as its "smallish" enough for purse carry.

floody beam, or mule type beam.

and lastly, a light that is possible to do an emitter swap. i think the nichia 219 would be ideal for her.

How about Romison, RC-G2, can get the XPG version. $17 or so, can be modded and you can use diffusion film if you want floodier. 1AA.

Still my all-time favorite senior light, the Fenix E10; built like a revolver handgun, click on/off simplicity, 1xAA with a broad ~60 lumen general use beam.

The Romisen RC-G2 III at shiningbeam could be a good light. 1 AA battery, forward clickie, single mode.

The Rayovac Indestructible 2 AA could also work for a larger light, also single mode. It also takes a P60 drop-in with a bit of modding from what I hear, so you could change the tint and output.

I gave my mom a Bayco 60 LED, black rechargeable nightstick looking thing
... she loves it.

A shiningbeam spark has a nice solid easy to press clicky, you could just leave it on medium. (95 lumens)

I guess I don't understand what's wrong with the light she has? She uses it as a single mode light, and medium is good enough...? It's big enough to not lose in a purse, etc.

Hi, I'm new to this forum. My search is similar to the original poster, except I am looking for a flashlight for my mom to use for very close work. She has numerous flashlights, and has a number of cheap
3 1/2 inch flashlights with 9-led's which can be bought everywhere. She likes these small flashlights to put in purse or pocket, especially to use when signing her name. She recently mentioned that they are fine but start losing brightness very quickly. I now read that this problem is lack of regulation. Are there any inexpensive small flashlights that are regulated? She has larger flashlights for other purposes. Don't know if using this only for close tasks would change anyone's recommendation, but would appreciate any suggestions.

can she use a twisty? a Thrunite TI is quite popular, and 3 lumens would last forever

if not, a Fenix E11 has a clicky, and an 8 hour runtime at 32 lumens

OMG is that Fenix E10 new or something?! i never seen that b4!

BTW, Fenix E05 is as simple as it gets as far as i know. just gave one to my mom, should be alright.

thanks all for the suggestions!

i like the E10 and revolvers :grin2:, but its not so convenient to obtain... i havent really searched, but i know none of my favorite dealers has had them in stock for a long time.

ive had a couple romisens and the switches i found to be flakey.

ive thought about the E11, but like the quark tactical more because i can program its levels.
so i picked up a quark 123-2 tactical from the MP. planning to pop in a nichia 219, and try to explain the bezel loose/tight UI again. ill make sure she gets it this time, even if it takes me 100 times, and 10 different ways of explaining it :grin2:

the xeno was working fine, but one night she was complaining that it wasnt bright enough while walking home from the bus stop.
and she doesnt make use of the low and high modes cause she doesnt think of cycling through the modes :shrug::laughing:

The Fenix looks like a great flashlight. I assume all the Fenix flashlights have a regulated output? What about Thrunite? And here is a really stupid question: Any idea how many lumens the cheap 9-led mini-flashlights put out when they are new, with new battery? (I'm trying to compare what my mom is used to using with what she might experience with the better flashlights.)
