Guys,

I carry a spare lithium primary in a plastic contact-lens container. This seems to work fine, keeping the batteries nice and dry. However, I have noticed that the cell seems to have a very fine, white dust over it when it has been stored for a while. What is this dust, and is it a problem?

Thanks,

Mike

Thank you Marduke. I am pretty sure that the dust may just be from abrasive effects of the cell rattling in the container. I am going to try your foam tape trick and that should narrow it down for sure.

Thanks

No clue on the dust, but with a little insulation to keep the cell from shorting, this and this make an excellent waterproof CR123 spare carry case. They can be found in the pharmacy section of almost every store. Foam tape works well for the insulation, and keeps the cell from rattling.

Hello...

I use a waterproof [orange in color] wooden matchstick carrier* that I purchased in my local Walmart for .89 cents. Most sporting and camping sections of stores will carry this item. Ozark Trail is the brand and it is usually on a hook, in a blister pack. Some online merchants carry versions of this for $3 +?

It will carry all size 123 batteries. Also 1760 and 18650.. all versions will fit.

I use a small piece of rolled and crumpled up plastic [Saran wrap, etc.,] to stop rattling if need on solo 123's......William

Oh, they are pillbox keychains, a.k.a. pillbox fobs.

Essentially they are a large keychain spy capsule.

Just like emergency water bags & firearm muzzle covers, the humble condom is a multi purpose waterproof cover, and is a great way to store batteries & other assorted electronics.

Make sure the contacts don't touch each other, and tie off with a loose knot to keep batteries from rattling around.

If using as a water carrier, make sure to use the unlubricated, non flavored kind.

You can keep a spare in your wallet.

A little late to the party (as always), but I just bought three sizes of the Wrack Works Genuine Pill Fob - Stainless Steel, O-ring sealed, and Made in USA!

Bought 'em from http://jazebra.com/pill-fob.html - a little pricey, but very high quality. FWIW, the Magnum size fits a 123 battery perfectly.

Thanks John, now at least I know where I can get it. LITEmania sold something very similar but I have contacted him a few times without any response.

Does anybody know if on ebay there are pill fobs that fit well a CR123A?

I just keep a spare in the glove compartment without protection at all......going to get one of those pill fobs this weekend.....awesome tip.

the pill fob costs about $1...the thread quality is :thumbsdow but for $1 I can't really complain. the o-ring isn't correctly sized and theres too much gap between threads to have any real water resistance, I touched it up with some nyogel and it helped:crazy:

everything is good in terms of machining, there are NO SHARP EDGES on the fob body. theres a generous amount of space inside.

I cut two pieces of double sided tape, peeled one side off, then mount it to the bottom and cap, the foam kind keeps the batteries from vertical rattling.

theres a cutup business card in there to dampen the lateral rattling.

it fits!

Bought three of these at wally, beside the bandage section....recently, however...I can't seem to find them. Like eneloops, they just about disappeared all together:shakehead:candle:

I love the one that Death's Head made for me recently; to my surprise it holds my CR123 very firmly despite the simple and compact design. Just don't swim with it LOL. This is his picture, I'm sure he wouldn't mind me hotlinking it.
