I find myself lacking any good throwy lights. Are there any small (16340/CR123 or AA/14500) sized lights that really throw? Maybe lights that use an aspheric lens?

Newer LED's, like the R5 has less surface brightness than the R2, if you didn't know :) That means that the R2 will give better throw than the R5's.
I really don't know about any 1 CR123/14500 lights that use a newer LED than the R2 and have better throw than the Ray D1..
The D1 can compare it's throw to many 2*CR123 throwers without aspherics.

Sorry, i forgot that you may use aspherics.. I guess there is many better throwers than the Ray D1 which uses aspherics.
But i think the Ray D1 is the best 1 CR123 thrower with a reflector, not aspheric lens.

Do you have any TIR Surefires? My LX2 throws VERY far, even on its 15 lumen low mode. You could try the E1B Backup.

Most aspherics and like i mentioned before, the D1 will beat the E1B in throw..
But the E1B is a super flashlight for daily use! Lovely EDC.

I haven't found any decent aspherics in the AA/14500 format either. Really wish I could've gotten a Deft FTP when they were still being made.

The E1B is also still in production and thus a lot easier to find than a D1.

You're right:nana:
If they still were in production, and for sale on their website, i would grab one at the moment!
The E1B lux is about 5100, am i right? There are many lights that has better lux than the E1B then.

I can help you out with that wish, email me wannamaker at gmail dot com.

Contact ma_sha1 and see if he can make what you want. He seem pretty keen on throwers.

In a word - no. Lights with lenses that small and batteries that small just can't throw (not what I would consider throw anyway). You really have to step up to a single 18650, 2x cr123, or many AA batteries to get any throw. That said, there are plenty of larger lights that can't throw either.

Have you seen the Ray D1?
16000 lux and it is 9,9 centimeters long! Running at 1 CR123 battery.

They have not made this light in a long time. You also only get about 25 min of run time from this light on a primary cell and about 10 min on a rechargeable.

i remembered nitecore's EZ series can throw about 50m on high. Not sure if that is enough throw for you :)

If you mean XR-E R2 and XP-G R5 then of course they are going to be different in throw as the XP-G is a bit larger.

DX C78 takes one AA or one 14500 has an Aspheric lens and adjustable focus.

I have seen and tested for OTF lumens those tiny CR123 Aspheric lights.

Both $15 dollar DX models and $150 dollar super built ones.

One thing they dont have much off is throw. Thats right!!!! At sub 7k lux on all the ones I tested I rather go the Optic route

A Surefire E1b or Surefire L1 driven at 1~1.2A will give you well into the 11~12k lux at 1m range.

Stock Surefire LX2's give over 12k lux at 1m.:D

Surefire TiR Optic is the way to go.
