Which LED lights have beams with a smooth gradient in light intensity from the centre of the hotspot to the edge of the spill? I don't want a light that's all uniform flood, nor one with an intense hotspot and an abrupt transition to a spill with much lower (uniform) intensity, as most Cree offerings seem to have. The closest I have seen to what I am describing is SSC P4 based lights like the early Kai Buckle AAA's and MTE AA (SKU 1995), but those lights have build quality issues. I prefer the AA form factor.

Of the lights I own or have used I think my fenix e20 has a very nice beam when it is on flood, also my friend got an inova x03 that has a lovely beam pattern and a very soft tint.

CR123: Any HDS, Novatac or Ra light
AA: Liteflux LF5, LF5XT, probably other models.

The new Golden Dragon Nitecore EX10 (CR123) and D10 (AA) have very smooth beams too.

BitZ has very smooth beam . nice transition from spot to edge.
CR123 but is sized like AA. I thing BugoutgearUSA has some left.

My ray-o-vac sportsman extreme (Luxeon Rebel version) has a very smooth beam transition from spot to flood, and the color tint is very good too. Its a really nice general purpose light for moderate lumen needs, its 2AA form though.

Its too bad the Rebel 0100 died on the table, there were a lot of nice lights that used that emitter to achieve nice smooth beams and warm color tints.:sigh:

+3 on the 120P.

But in AA form, if you are up for some modding, buy the Energizer 1xAA light at Target, swap the luxeon emitter for a SSC, and spray the reflector with clear spray paint for a stipple effect. ~$25, very good build quality for the price, and has a forward clicky.

There are a lot of smooth beam lights.
Most are not cree XR-E based though. THe one exception for Cree lights is the LF5XT.
I think that Inova's T series has a very nice beam, as do most lights which use an SSC. Such as the old Novatac and it's sucessors the Ra Twisty and Clickie.
The recent new kid on the block for smoother beam is the Nightcore lights with the Osram Golden Dragon Plus LED.
One of my personal faorite smooth beams aside from the LF5XT is a Lumapower M1 with the SSC Flood kit.

+3 on the 120P.
+4 on the NovaTac. Definetly one of the nicest beams ever.

+1 on the BiTZ, not an AA light, but very small CR123 light, great feel and a very smototh beam. The hotspot is a little brighter than the NovaTac, but a very nice beam.

I wish I could make a AA suggestion, maybe I'll do a little testing.

OP wasnt aking for AA based lights......

I would actually have to go with the new surefire U2A it has the smoothest, most usable beam I have seen to date.
