I went to use one of my favorite lights and went to put in new batteries for a camping trip. When I opened it I discovered the Duracell batteries had leaked and melted the black plastic on the lens housing. The battery plastic edges on the lens holder were soft and mushy. The light was still working when I opened it. The Duracells were put in new so really disappointed.

Not sure if its worth the hassle to pay shipping to send the batteries and light to Duracell to get them to pay for the unit and have them turn me down. Anyone else have any experience with Duracell?

That sucks. I wonder if streamlight covers that in their warranty.

Duracell would be the one to contact. When a leaky battery ruins a lights, just about every battery manufacturer has a warranty to either replace or refund the light. Few light manufacturers (some, but not many) will replace a light due to damage of the batteries you put in it.

Hey Steve - what a bummer. I have the 4AA SLPPL, and have always liked it, although I use NiMH in it.

I'd try and call Duracells CS and see what they suggest, theres a toll-free number listed on their website.

How much time elapsed between the time you installed the new batteries, and when you checked and found they'd leaked?

My best friend had this happen to him, but the cells weren't new. He left his ProPoly 3C on and stuck it in a backpack, and when he went to swap out the dead cells, the Coppertops had leaked.

Call Duracell and explain the problem. They'll send you a check for the replacement cost you specified, along with a mailer to return the bad cells. Then you can buy yourself another ProPoly. :)

I put new batteries I about 6 months ago and just used it around the house from time to time. It had been about 2 months since I used it last.

I had a new Diehard 3-AAA Luxeon flashlight and it came with Diehard Alkaline batteries. Within 45 days they had leaked out (well, one of them anyway) and started corroding the metal area on the rear of the reflector area (as I had it sitting face down). I took it back to the Sears store where I bought it (with the receipt) and they replaced the whole thing with another one off the shelf. I put Duracells in it, as I didn't want to repeat the Diehard thing. Oops!!!

Switch to the Eneloop NiMH. They are Low Self Discharge rechargeable batts. After they are charged, if you let them sit for a year, I guess they will only loose 15% of their charge. I mean I dig Duracell, but if you can minimize leaking, have rechargeable features, and have a smaller discharge rate, :twothumbs. Plus the NiMH will give you a longer runtime.

I took your guys advice and sent Duracell some email. I didn't see an customer service email on their site but used an email form they had. I told them I was unhappy and what happen. I also gave them a link to pictures of the damage. I hope they send me a check with the damages. If anyone is interested here are pictures of the damage light.

mmmm, flashlight disaster porn. We need a thread for this stuff.

If Duracell does not take care of you, then send the flashlight to Streamlight for a replacement. Streamlight will most likely replace it for you even though it is not their problem...Awesome Customer Service!!!!!!

Re: Streamlight 4AA Luxeon LED Ruined :( Update

I received a email today to call Duracell. I explained my problem and they said they will the case to quality control and that in 2-3 weeks I should receive a coupon for the batteries and a check to cover the light. :)

If they pull thru I will be happy with Duracell customer service.
