The new E2DL rated at 200 lumens - like the LX2 - seems quite appealing
I might get one over the LX2 - whose interface is not among mt favourite ones -

Though I am not in fond of the E2DL tailcap...can that be replaced by a E2L tailcap ? Or a SOLARFORCE L2 / SUREFIRE 6P clickie will work with the E2DL body ?
Will the light still have the 2-modes when the original tailcap is replaced ?
Any input would be much appreciate !

The tailcap from an E2L (Z57) can be used on the E2DL. It operates in the same way (click on/off) and you will still be able to use both levels on the E2DL.

I'm not familiar with the other, aftermarket, tailcaps you mention, but if it is designed to be used on a 6P size light, then it won't be compatible with an E-series light such as the E2DL.

Tempest

I would advise considering the E2DL's new 200 lumen rating as an update of the rating rather than an update of the actual output.

If SureFire's lumen ratings of the past are considered to indicate more like a range of outputs of 'at least x lumens' then SureFire are now appearing to use ANSI/NEMA FL 1-2009 which standardises how to measure and rate flashlight output.

I think the most important thing to appreciate is that over a representative production sample the lumen output and runtime characteristics will vary for a whole host of reasons and variables. The 'ratings' are indicative and represent a nominal or 'average' point rather than an exact and defined value.

SureFire offer the Z61 which is a Black HA version of the Z57 mentioned by Tempest. The Z57, Z61 and Z68 have the same Clickie function as the E2D/E2DL Clickie TailCap.

The dual output capability of the E2DL is based on the bezel sensing a break in electrical contact usually the result of the clickie switch being clicked off and on again. The E2DL will retain the dual output functionality when the Z57/Z61/Z68 TailCaps are used instead of the stock E2DL Crenelated TailCap.

Here is a direct link to the Z61 at Surefire...

The LX2 tail cap sucks, I ended using the LX2 head in a L4 body and tail cap, but it only gives me one mode, the high mode.

What don't you like about the two-stage push button pressure switch?
I believe I'm not alone in considering it about the finest user interface yet implemented.
If I had to guess I suspect you tend to want to use light constant-on, preferring not to have to keep pressure on the push button, and fine it annoying to rotate the TailCap, perhaps especially given that the two-way pocketclip encroaches onto it...?
