Surefire KL5A: No more 9V?

Anyone know whether the Surefire KL5A head works properly on 3 cells?

The original Surefire KL5A page had:

6P, 9P, C2, C3, G2, G2Z, M2, Z2, Z3

as the supported lights, now shows:

6P, C2, G2, G2Z, M2, Z2

Has there been a new revision?

I've had one on order for a while - hoping to use it on more than 6V
(for example up to 8.4V - only used on genuine SureFire batteries, honest....)

I think the 9V-limit refers to the old version. It was a boost-cicuit (Vf ~ 6.5V) and '9V compatibility' was always questionable, at least for me. The new one should be a buck-circuit, and everything above 4V should work.

Luckily enough I just received my L5 with KL5a led assembly. I just popped it into my D3 body and it worked. I was scared at first but for CPF I though I'd give it a try. It works perfectly. There are no signs of overloading the circuits or slight blinking of the beam.

Thanks. Every once in a while someone needs to take one for the team and find out if something will run on 9v.

I'll risk it when it turns up, was just a bit confused as to why SureFire had taken the 3 cell models off the KL5A product page.

Yeah, does seem strange. Must be a glitch, at least for now.

I ran several sets of batteries (3xCR123) through mine and all is well.

If you look at SF's "Specifications Chart", the KL5A still shows as an accesory/replacement LED head for the C3...hmmm...maybe SF is erring on the side of caution???
