Surefire U2?

Candle Power Forums

Help Support Candle Power:

Jon that was a 168A you dropped in there at SHOT right? What ever it was it was slight larger then the 123’s and about 2x as long, it worked fine and fit fine, the smaller ones actually rattled around a bit, not to much, but the tube is definitely a bit larger.

Don,

What Brightnorm said! If so, get your handtruck out, cause here come the emails and orders!! You could market it smartly as a, "U2 Avoidance Device".

Give it up Phaserburn,

There will be no U2 Avoidance Device! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/tongue.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

OT: I ran out of time on the E series two stage but the parts are coming together. I'll get back on it in April provided I'm not having too much fun playing with the new SF wonders! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/icon15.gif

OK, last week I posted in the cafe that I wan't going to buy any lights this year cause i thought that some great luxeon lights were in the pipeline!

Well dang! This is what I've been waiting for! this will be the last light I ever buy, really, I swear. I will have to start selling off other Surefires to finance this baby - $270!

You can bet with the new sales policy and high demand there aren't going to be any deals on this one!

Someone, please clue me in!!

What's the big deal about these??

The L4 is widely accepted as a greta light, but it's too bright for many things. You don;t want to have just a Luxeon V 100 lummen light to check on the kids who,
up till that time, were sleeping. An Lux V light will also eat batteries fairly fast, so you need lots of spares on hand and a second light so you can find the tailcap you dropped while changing the batteries.

The U2 appears to offer a fairly small (a subjective issue) 100 lummen light that can be dimmed to allow longer run time (10's of hours) as well as allowing it tro be used up close. The stitching is integral and appears to be easy to access via a rotating ring near the head of the light.

Many of the current mods are including 2 or more light levels (Mr Bulks VIP, Mc Gizmo's e2 and my own kroll spring mod to name a few). Some commercial lights have had it for a while (Surefire L1, ARC4, Garrity's teardrop shaped light, etc).

Hey Jon, inquiring minds want to know.

The fat Pila's will give you a really nice runtime if they fit. I've reamed out all my C series surefire lights to take the fat cells and now I'm never going back to 123's. Guilt-Free and long runtimes. What more can you as for?

What's the life of the 5W LED in the U2? Other threads seem to say its only 500 hours. Will SF replace the LED under warranty when it dims down as it gets used?

That's why they call their warranty "forever".

I don't think any of us have begun to fathom the merits of the U2!

This is the understatement of the year... for sure!

Well, I want to fathom some serious merits at my doorstep, quick! Any wild speculation about ship dates yet??

Can one of you technically savvy people give me a break down in minutes acquired by using a 168A vs 168S? 1800mah vs 1400mah?

Maybe I've been out of the loop too long, but what is this Black HA3? Is it legit or a typo? Is it as good as Natural HA3?

I want to pre-order, but I dont see the Nat HA3 available.

I think the only difference is the dye that is added to get the desired color. There should be no differences in quality or wear.

dang, i think they just made my light! I was just pondering how to add a magnet ring to a c2 bezel with a pelican m6 reflector in it.
Need to know if I can possibly swap the led, and how to overdrive it!

This is a boost only cirquit, right? Hm do you think it has a resistor network for each reed switch, setting a current level? Or maybe completely digital? It has a clickie right?

I keep looking at the U2 pic and keep wondering if the dimmer 'collar' shouldn't have been located at the tail end of the light for one-handed operation rather than toward the head.

But wait, have you read their guarantee recently? "Lamps will burn out, batteries will be used up, and tape switches for WeaponLights™ will eventually need to be replaced. Everything else is covered by our lifetime no-hassle guarantee: If it breaks, we fix it!"
Is the LED considered a Lamp??
