"You guys need to see the new Surefire U2 which is about the size of an original 6P, but is an LED that has 6 variable power settings from 2 lumen up to 100 lumen." Got this message from a friend...don't see it on the surefure sught...any comments?

I hope it is more like the L4 beam wise. To get 100 lumen it will likely have poor spill beam light. I think the L4 is focused for 60 lumen.

Lumens is the amount of light, not intensity. Intensity is measured in Lux. So regardless of tight spot or wide flood, 100 lumens is 100 lumens.

I'd really like to know when it will be available.

Some folks recently returned from SHOT might be able to give us some specfics. The photo that I saw looked a lot like the L5, which would make me think the beam characteristics might also be similar to the L5. That would be fine with me.

...they cost a king's ransom!
Had to finish what the Wiz was thinking! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/naughty.gif Whew! The price will make your eye's water and really annoy your spouse!
Bought a Surefire U2? Call Slick Sammy the divorce lawyer...he can help.

Ha. Yeah, don't count on having them shipped tomorrow from any place!

The head does seem to be a similar configuration to the L5.

Don't know if I'll buy one but it's a pretty cool light to handle and adjust the power levels with its ring. Didn't get to see it perform in low light conditions (Surefire needs a viewing closet or the like) so I don't have a definite opinion on the U2.

This photo is courtesy of Don (McGizmo) so be sure to thank HIM!! It was taken at SHOT show and I lifted it from the "SHOT show Happening" thread. Hope he don't mind. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif

I would still register concern that the adjustment ring would easily move out of position if it doesn't lock into a detent or tighten like a collet. If focusing bezels can move during carry so could this.

Nice pic!! I really like the Black Type III finish! Still wondering about that clip tho...

The U2 looks like a big'un, a tougher EDC than the L4 for sure.

The clip ROCKS. I would prefer all the SF clips to be like this. There are many advantages to a wire clip.... not to mention that it is as simple as can be to remove without a trace.

And pssst! It is bezel down, as god intended.

Hmm. An adjustable intensity L5. It probably will work with a Pila rechargable like the L5 does too. I like the twist control for changing the intensity. Very intuitive interface if it's reliable.

It looks good so far. I have two favorite lights now. The Arc4+ for EDC and the SF L5 for walking and general task light. I wonder how the U2 will compare to the L5 with regards to throw?

No, that's defnitely an L5 head...L4 head is shorter and wouldn't fit on that body anyway.

Yeah, I think you're right about this one. It would probably have been better if the U2 had a detent, much like the Inova 24/7 could use one, IMO. It would have been quite satisfying to hear and feel it click into place. Oh well. Still a nice light.

I agree. This is a good trend.

The battery tube ID is large enough for the Pila and I believe it is even large enough for an 18650! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/icon15.gif We need Al to chime in here but this head to tube thread configuration is compatible with some SF weapon light systems; MUxx??? The head, with integrated rotary switch will fit on some of the weapon power paks and the body will accept some of the weapon light heads. Once we get some of these, I suspect we will be showing some variations beyond the initial U2 configuration. I believe the reflector in the U2 is identical in performance to the KL5.
