Hi Everyone

I will be in the Phoenix area in September and thought it would be a great idea to have another GT. It has been awhile (2007) and would be great see everyone again and meet some new CPFers in the Phoenix area.

I will update this area when needed.

WHO

Everyone is invited!!! (Please post if you think you will attend)

WHEN Sept 25 2010
I plan to be there around 4:00 and start grilling around 5:00PM.

WHERE
.
Lost Dutchman State Park

6109 N. Apache Trail
Apache Junction, Arizona 85219
(480) 982-4485

CPFmapmarch07.gif

It is hard to tell by the map but the Park is easy to find. The Park is on the Apache Trail so from the 60 you would just follow signs to Canyon Lake and you will drive right to it. I don't think you even make a turn once you exit the 60

Reservations are now made for the Cholla Day Use Area (Group Site) for 4:00PM to 1:00AM.

I talked to the Park Ranger and we are set to go as late as we want. They will not close the gates. There will be a $7:00 fee per car when entering the park. The park office will close at 5 but there are accommodations for self reservations. The campground is closed for repairs but I can make special arrangements if anyone wants to camp in the day use area but I will need to know in advance if you want to camp.

Cholla Day Use Area is easy to find. You will see a sign after you pass the park office directing you to the day use area and we will be the first day use area you come to (on the left) When you park in the parking lot you will see a sign for the group area to your right.

Lost Dutchman State Park is very nice place for us to meet and has worked very well for us in the past. After the sun goes down we will have plenty of darkness to play with the lights and the Superstition Mountains are close enough to hit with lasers. The Ramada is nice and is perfect for what we need. There are electrical outlets so we will have power for hotplates and electrical equipment. There is also a trailhead leaving our area so we can do a night hike if we wish. Make sure you bring your UV lights.

There are no restrictions on alcohol so if you choose to drink you can but please be responsible. There is also a large fire pit so I am going to ask for volunteers to bring firewood. (Could get cold at night)

FOOD

Here are some things we will need so please volunteer to bring something and post what you will commit to. I will provide the hamburger and buns.

FIREWOOD (please bring a bundle or two)
Charcoal and starter fluid
Hamburger compliments (Mustard, pickles, onions)
Covered dishes
Appetizers
Chips & Dip
Rolls

Hey Steve this is a great idea. There hasn't been a GT here in a long time. It would be good to see the gang again. I don't have many new lights since last time. (disposable income is in short supply)
Let's get this goin'!

Will keep that in mind, We are probably going to have her family in town that weekend, as a result she probably won't be coming but I may be able to slip out for a bit.

Looks like we have about 8 people so far confirmed based on post and emails; I was hoping to have some new CPFers in the area show up. Anyone lurking planning to show?

I will bring the hamburger meat and some buns but we need some volunteer for some charcoal, lighter fluid, mustard, pickles, cooking utensils and some chips.

I am new and I would like to attend as I live in front of the mountain in the picture but a little on the other side near gold canyon. Its crazy it going to be close, in fact awesome!!!. I used to live in front of the Mining Camp restaurant and play out there when I was little. Great area and its great to see it opened again! Awesome view too! Also nice its cooling down and it will be a nice evening, just got to watch out for the mojitos(mosquitoes) if its humid that day.

Also I will be bringing my pops and his girlfriend.

So count three more in.

My name is Eric Ramirez and Ill be bringing Gilbert Ramirez and Ann Kardasz.

Ill bring the charcoal and the charcoal wont need starter fluid as it comes on it, killing two birds with one stone you could say. Also always have a lighter even though I dont smoke.

Also will bring a brand new Icon Rogue 1 gunmetal brand new for the potluck with a couple new Tenergy Lsd AA 2300mah batteries with a new Sanyo 4x AA charger.

Let me know if there is anything else I could do...
Also sorry for the late notice... I had to confer with my counsel:thumbsdow
Look forward and hope to meet some new people that share the same sick addiction:sick:, photons...

Thanks,
Eric

Hi Eric

I am looking forward to meeting you, Gilbert and Ann and a big thank you for bringing the charcoal. It will be great to have some new CPFers show up!!

How many burgers do you think I should plan for? I was thinking 2 for each person but can bring more if think you might have a big appetite.

Eric!

Welcome to the party-- it'll be great to meet the three of you!

Steve - Two burgers each should be okay for Kim and me.

I am planning to bring the following

  • Firewood (can probably be made to last entire evening with judicious use, but more would always be better)
  • Neighborhood weekly tabloid-size newspapers, 2 (for starting fire)
  • Emergency survival kit with WetFire fire-starting cubes and spark-generating tool
  • Garden rakes, 2
  • Shovel, 1
  • Garden hose, 75-foot length
  • Spray nozzle for garden hose, 1
  • Camp chairs, 2 - 4, depending on how many I can dig out of the shed
  • 5-gallon water cooler, 1 (I'll fill it, likely with ice water, but perhaps with Tang)
  • Grilling tongs, fork, spatula, and wire brush
I could use kindling (my wood chunks are bigger than that), because I don't know how much fire can be created with the WetFire stuff. I doubt it would generate enough heat to not need kindling (although the charcoal could be used).

Hey Kris. I can bring some more wood and kindling. Also IIRC, we'll need a longer hose than 75' so I can bring some more. With any luck I'll be bringing a guest but admittedly I haven't talked with her about it yet. I haven't really worked on any new projects but I can bring some old ones for reprise. Light activate relay for instance. Also the compact flourescent spotlight.
