I must be missing something, but why are there not more forward clicky "tactical" lights that can tail stand?

I understand the need for easy access to the button, but it seem like it would be easy to cut part of the shroud down to allow access. I thought I saw a light like this before.

It just seems like it would be fairly easy to give the best of both worlds....

I couldn't agree more.

I would like all lights to have this feature, whether tactical or for use as tools or just for leisure use.

Eagletac offers tailstanding caps with forward clickies. If I'm not mistaken, the Nitecore Extreme and Defender Infinity are also tailstandable. But you're right, the two do seem mutually exclusive. I guess the target market for forward clickies wants them to be as accessible as possible, and any design which allows tailstanding will hinder that somewhat.

I myself prefer a light that will tailstand, and I look for that in any light I purchase. In fact, I have the tailstanding cap on my T100C2 as we speak. :D

the EagleTac's new tailstanding tailcap does a pretty good job.

the base is wide with relatively large amount of space surrounding the button.

large base = more stable tailstand
large base + space around the button = easy to activate

currently i'm using the P100A2, not a tactical light, but the tailcap is rather small compared to the t20c2 or t100c2, but i have no problems activating it. and tailstanding the light is actually more stable than having the light stand on the bezel lol.

tried the quark single AA model with a tailstanding tailcap and gawd dammit! i had to use the tip of my finger to activate the freakin' switch!

Hear hear! I've gone on quests to get rubber booties that will fit tactical lights to make them tailstand. It looks like 4sevens' lights will do it if you change the boot to the flat one. I haven't tested this theory yet, I will when I get home, though.

One of the reasons my Seraph SP6 is getting so much use is the fact it can tail stand.
Power failures are common in South Africa and the fact I use 18650's in the SP6 means I use it often and guilt free.
Ceiling bounce with the R2 is super.

The forward clicky and the smooth bezel means it also gets EDC duty at times.

The Olight M30 Triton tailstands with a forward clickie. It looks like the M30 Warrior, whenever it becomes available, will not.

Also, putting the non-tactical boot from a quark switch on the tactical switch will not work, IIRC. The tactical switch itself protrudes from the end of the light, and the regular boot won't fit.

The Nitecore Extreme does not.

I shaved some rubber out of the inside of my Jetbeam Jet III Pro ST button cover and it now tailstands when on. (It sticks out a bit when the switch is off.) It's pretty nice.

I have a Z49 on my 6PD/M60W. It's a great combination.

It's a little larger in OD than the stock 6-series tails, but works 100% and isn't unsightly. There's minor interference with the Lanyard ring, but very minor.
