I currently have a TLE-6K2 in a 3D Mag which is a vast improvement.
However, I was wondering if the new TLE-6EX is so much better as to justify the further expense of a new drop-in? Or should I be content and stick with the K2?
It's my first post so be gentle with me!

Howdy sootyboy, and welcome to CPF,

Well, none of us has the new Mag Cree drop-in yet, so kind of hard to say. You could e-mail the guys at batteryjunction.com and ask them, as I think they have a prototype.

My feeling is that you are probably going to be fine with the K2, and could instead use that extra cash for a another complete light, like the upcoming release of the Rexlight 2.0 which is a neat little Cree AA light coming out soon. Those folks who sign up early will receive an e-mail when it is released giving them an opportunity to buy it for only $30 shipped. See this thread for details:

I'm not trying to sell you a Rexlight, just pointing out other possible uses for that $30. Of course, if you want the best and brightest for your Mag, then yes, the new Cree drop-in will be brighter.

However, LOTS of new lights will be coming out in the next few months, so an even smarter option would be to hang around the forum and read, read, read. Learn as much as you can about what's available now, and what is coming down the road in the near future. For instance...... you should definitely go here:

http://www.flashlightreviews.com/features/buyers_guide.htm

and here:

http://flashlightnews.org/

Those are 2 good resources for learning about flashlights. Ok, sorry to be so long winded, but it's easy to spend money here, and I just want to make sure you get started right! :)

It is a significant amount of additional light (I made the prototype).

You can always sell your K2 on the buy/sell/trade forum. Used flashlights and parts move quickly around here.

Hi EngrPaul,

Is there any info about TLE-6EX output and runtime on various setups (i.e. 3D, 4D, 5D, 6D) ? And I wondering if it will work at all on 2D or 2xNiMH (2.4V).

Since it is possible to insert 12AAs in to 3D M*G I'm thinking about switchable battery holder (6x2->2.4V , 3x - 3.6, 4x - 4.8, 6x2- 7.2V)
