I just recently found this forum and it didn't take long to become overwhelmed. Having said that... I have 2 questions..... can someone please explain to me how/what it involved in making a spotlight a hid converison with balyst (spelling)?

Also I have a brinkman III million cwp spotlight...... I want a bright spotlight but not one that weighs 40 pounds. I live in PA and like to go out and spot deer some nights but my light isn't bright enough. I'd like to convert mine into something way bright or buy a new one. I need something bright. Any help you guys could give me would be great. Thanks.

The quickest and cheapest way (not neccessarily the best way) is to determine which Halogen buld your spotlight uses. Most smaller ones will use a H3 bulb, most larger ones will use a H4 bulb.

Once you know which bulb, get on eBay and buy a HID kit (Bulb, wiring and ballast) for that size bulb. This will make focusing your light easier.

You probably could use your existing light for a HID mod. There are a lot of options out there for good hosts.

See the following threads for the best info:

This one is a VERY nice build for a larger H4 rechargeable spotlight - http://www.candlepowerforums.com/vb/showthread.php?t=247652

This one looks a lot like your light, and the directions may suit you well - http://www.candlepowerforums.com/vb/showthread.php?t=248768

Another light similar to yours - http://www.candlepowerforums.com/vb/showthread.php?t=248519

Good luck, and when you're done, post beamshots!

Another simple solution is simply to go to Walmart and buy the Stanley HID. It will probably cost less than buying all the conversion parts. Also, it's instant start so no warm up time when you're trying to spot wildlife that moves as soon as you turn on the light. With a conversion, you're looking at at least 5-7 seconds before you have usable light downfield.

thanks for the help everyone.

I spot tree in a vehicle... go out around the block....... where I live in alot of corn fields and sometimes the deer are 100 yards aways or more. The light that I have now isn't bright enough to see them good enough.

We saw a pretty good size buck the other night but couldn't count how many points he had due to the light not shining down in the cornfield that far .. grrrr ;-)

I'm not sure what "spot tree in a vehicle" means, unless you're saying that you use it from a tree stand or spot them from a vehicle. Either way member BVH's recommendation from the Stanley HID was a good one. I didn't realize this before yesterday but apparently the Stanely can be used continuously from 12V power from the lighter socket indefinitely. This makes the small battery issue a non-factor while driving. I'm familiar with the Brinkman 100W blackmax light which I'm guessing is similar to your light but the Stanley should smoke it by a huge margin. Hoping that works for you and that they're available at your Walmart. Good luck.

hahaha i forgot to proofread my post. **Correction** I meant to say that I spot DEER from a vehicle and that would be the primary use for the spotlight.

I picked up one of the Stanely HID spotlights tonight..... it's raining here in pa pretty good right now, but I did get to shine out the back door down in the farm field and man it's way bright. It's way brighter than my brinkmann spotlight definately. I appreciate everyones help. Another happy customer with HID Stanley light.
