Thinking of a D20 - Should I consider anything else?

I haven't had much experience with 2 x AA lights.. Although I love my single cell AA's.

I rather Nitecore loyal and am still using my NDI and D10 R2's as my EDC.

I'm looking for a 2 x AA light... So obviously I look straight at the D20..

Any thoughts?

If you are happy with your D10, then you should love the D20 - if mine are anything to go by, the piston drive on the D20 is even smoother than the D10 version. It has less knurling than the D10 but nevertheless feels very solid and well-made.

One thing to be aware of is that the D20 is not set up for throw: it's actually quite floody. It is significantly brighter than the D10 and quite useable outdoors though.

Another bonus that I discovered after getting the D20 is that the bezel fits the Surefire filters and beamshapers, which makes it an ideal astronomy light for me.

I've EDC'd quite a few lights on my belt. Currently I EDC the PD 20
in a Fenix holster. I'm very pleased with my PD20 from 4 Sevens!!!

I like Nitecore too and have a D20 R2. It's a bomb-proof light that's bright and floody. However, a thing or two doesn't make me want to use it as often as I hope. Because it's bomb-proof, it's rather heavier than most 2AA lights and another thing is that I wish it's slimmer, or ideally a longer version of D10.
So for that matter, I rather go for Fenix LD20 or L2D. Also best bang for buck is EagleTac P100A2 or the new/upcoming P20A2.

Cool, I think its gonna suit my needs.. I'm after a bomb proof back-up AA rather than an EDC so I think the D20 may be the go :)

what in particular do u like about nitecore?

you might also find those qualities in the Quark AA^2
I'd recommend you to at least have a look

Umm... I think I like the Build Quality, Styling, and most Importantly the UI :)

I'll check out the Quarks for sure.

Now this is really picky I know, but does anyone else feel that the Quarks are a tad overdone with 4sevens branding... ??

"does anyone else feel that the Quarks are a tad overdone with 4sevens branding... ??"

Overdone? Too much product of 4sevens' from Quark, the series? You think 4sevens should make a new series.

Or maybe I don't think i really get you, can you rephrase that please?

I would think you would be very happy with the D20 aside from the fact that it is one of the ugliest flashlights on the planet.
Just carry a small paper bag that you can slip over the body(not the head) when you want to use it. It will work fine.

Haha that's a bit harsh :) I think there are worse... Plus lights always look better in real.. And normally smaller than I expect from photos. Do you actually have one?

Hi Ct: Before I got mine, I honestly also thought it didn't look that great - but, as we all know, photos can be deceptive. In this case, I wouldn't expect it to be smaller than the photos though - if anything it's a bit bigger than twice a D10 if you see what I mean.

It is actually a pretty good looking light in the flesh, and the various diameter changes are there for a good reason - they make it very easy to grip.

I took the clip off mine, and the fingers just seem to fall in the right place for a good tight grip (for me, the 2xAA form factor is usually a bit too long and thin, so something to get hold of is quite important).

The heft and solid feel of the light also make a big difference - again something that you can't really tell from a photograph, but which make it a very nice light to own once you get one in your hand.

I have one. I too think it's quite a brute for a 2AA light. I can easily see myself using it to BOP someone over the head with. :D It's hefty.

I did catch my wife mouthing it the other day working on her toes. :ohgeez: I gave her a AAA light and told her to use that for doing things like this.

I do like the light though.

Why bother with a 2xAA D20 if you already have a D10?

Just use a 14500 li-on in your D10. It will be brighter and have pretty much the same runtimes as a D20 with eneloops.

There's really no reason to get a 2xAA D20 if you already have a D10 since the D20 cannot run li-ons.

In other words:
D10 with 14500 = D20 with NiMH

Although aesthetics is personal, I have to disagree on this. I think D20 is better looking than D10, and much better looking than Quark 2AA (Quark's modular design is good, but only the 2-123 version has best ratio, all the other models are not best looking).
I used to think Jetbeam lights are best looking, but D20 is one Nitecore in same league.

Clint

Maybe you should try Quark 2xAA.

I really love mine... Everything is perfect: anodization, tint, beam (no rings), modes, size... I just can´t see anything bad about Quark lights!

Umm, a 14500 has less energy than one high capacity NiMH, and the D20 gets much longer runtimes at similar brightness levels.
