Any body know the capacity for those big honking 6 volt alkaline batteries? you know, those big, rectangular batteries about the size of a 1985 cell phone?
Ive got a project that might be pretty cool if its a lot...

Looking at the above link... the square-ish lantern battery has a capacity of 26000 mah and the larger rectangular battery has a capacity of 52000 mah.

I didn't look at the datasheets to see what the test current is though. Still, looks pretty decent for a cheap throw-away battery that you can buy almost anywhere.

The 26Ah figure is at 25mA continuous drain. OK if you want to run just one 5mm LED for ages. At higher currents their capacity declines markedly.

FWIW an SLA in that size is rated 6V, 5Ah. Or if you want much more capacity at high current and want the lantern battery size use a D to lantern adaptor ( like http://www.jaycar.co.nz/productView.asp?ID=PH9224&CATID=&keywords=ph+9224 ) and put NiMHs in it.
