Any body know the capacity for those big honking 6 volt alkaline batteries? you know, those big, rectangular batteries about the size of a 1985 cell phone?

It is quite a lot. The good ones are four F cells wired in series, and the cheap ones are four D cells wired in series. http://data.energizer.com has a lot of good info.
Looking at the above link... the square-ish lantern battery has a capacity of 26000 mah and the larger rectangular battery has a capacity of 52000 mah.
I didn't look at the datasheets to see what the test current is though. Still, looks pretty decent for a cheap throw-away battery that you can buy almost anywhere.
