I have a couple of SF (6P, G2Z and G2) and SL Tasklight. I need a light that have a throw of 100 yards or even 100m. Best is small size (like E2e), budget not an issue. Any good recommendation? /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/help.gif

Get a SRTH Turbo head for that 6P or better yet an A19 battery extender and the Turbo head.

If throw in a small package is important, you might want to look to the LED side of lights. An Aleph 1 with a Lux III running at 700mA or more (you might want to go 1A) makes a nice 100 yard light, depending upon ambient lighting. If you want more, the Aleph III has about twice the lux rating of the A1. You won't have to worry about dimming light or buying lamp assemblies any more either.

The easiest way is to buy a Streamlight TL3 incandescent, it really throws.

I like the TL3 also. Very bright with excellent throw and adjustable beam. The long belt clip is strong and secure. Good and dependable with a spare bulb!!

Second the Strion. I have both the Strion and TL-3.
The TL-3 is no doubt brighter in overall output and has a greater hot spot, but the spot is kind of oval.
The Strion can be focused very tight, and throw pretty much as far as the TL-3 (who cares about the lack of spill at 100m??).
Plus, the recharchable factor in the Strion is unbeatable, guilt free lumens. And don't forget the fact that it's waay smaller than the TL-3.

how long can the bulb of TL-3 last? (the life span of the bulb i mean, how many hrs of use before it will burn out)

i am actually looking at the TL-2 for its smaller size

how good is TL-2 compare with SF P60 lights?

If budget isn't an issue, then what about the Surefire M3T? Or even a C3 with a turbohead? I have a 9P with the KT2 (or is it KT3? Same thing though, just came with different bulbs) and it throws a great distance. Not as far as the SRTH from what I've heard, but easily a hundred meters even with some street lighting. The threading is the same on most Surefires so you could get a turbohead and use it on the two cell models you already have with the 6 volt light, or get the battery extender and the lamp for the 9 volt models.

Now that I think about it, one of my best "inexpensive" throw lights is my Streamlight Pro-Polymer 3C. It's got a bright little Xenon that is quite the thrower.

If you're willing to go a bit larger, don't overlook the lowly M*glite. My M*g 2C with Pila 150A's, MOP PMR, UCL, and GH24 bulb passes the minimum throw test (i.e. turns off the street light in front of my house). My TL3's (incan & LED) don't pass the minimum throw test (i.e. don't even phase the street light).

I have a 6D M*g, how to make it a super light?

well, you should be able to cram 10-12 123's in there...anybody got a bulb that runs at about 30V and a little under 1 amp? /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif Or, 6 4-to-D adapters.... /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cool.gif

Super lights tend to be amazingly bright for how small they are. For example I don't think any one calls the Thor a super light.

So the idea is to put more power in a smaller size. For example take a 6D M*g and take the bulb and put it in a 2D m*g with 6 AA cells driving it and you are starting. Now put in a 5 cell bulb and you are over driving it to make is brighter. Next step is to buy speciality bulb, aka super bulbs. WA bulbs here you come...

Now you end up with something like a Thor but in a m*g light.

But if you want to stay with the 6D, you want to check out dropping in a rechargable pack that uses most of that space. That way you can increase run time. Next you want to match that to the best bulb you can get, a WA would be best. Also need to change out the reflector if it is plastic as it will melt.

But for me, I would think it would be easier to buy a M*g charger or Tiger light and then modify from there.

Maybe I missed it elsewhere, but exactly what are you wanting to illuminate at 150 yards? A person? An animal? A white on green sign?

That might help others help you better.

I've never exactly measured throw 'distance'. I'll go out tonight and try a 3D Maglite at 150 yards and see what things looks like. According to quickbeams numbers, the 3D Mag and the M6 have identical throw.

Yeah, even if you got a really super light with a 6D M@g, its not going to look very super due to its size, people sorta expect it to give out lotsa light, even thought it normally doesn't.
