Well, Darell & I have been testing a new firmware release that unifies UIF/UIP and UIB2 into a single release that I've name UI-uni.

bFlex will be shipped so that UIB2 is the active operating mode, so bike folk will not notice any major changes.

All the previous features of UIB2 have been incorporated into the UI-uni version. Several new features have been added to the overall firmware:

- UIF/UIP inherit the voltage monitoring scheme of UIB2 and the menu scheme of UIB2.

- Obviously a few menu items have been added/changed/moved around a little.

- Cutoff voltage monitoring has been added (as a 3rd user configurable voltage). This forces the light to turn off after a minute - so the user can continue to use the light in 1 minute intervals if desperate.

- UIF/UIP inherit the temperature monitoring scheme of UIB2.

- UIB2Q has been added, a 'quiet' version of UIB2 which doesn't have the initial 3 second menu flash (you need to press the switch while applying power to get into the menu). This should make folk with a separate power switch happy.

- Master/Slave mode for bFlex. See the preliminary manual to see how it works (at the end of the manual).

You can check out the preliminary manual at pdf manual, if you find any errors or something is not clear, feel free to tell me so I can fix it.

I'm going to start shipping the new UI-uni with bFlex drivers later next week as the only firmware option. So, that will be end the old UIF/UIP/UIB firmware.

maxFlex2 and nFlex will also run UI-uni (except master/slave will not be present).

Anyhow, feel free to offer comments/suggestions.

cheers,
george.

Great work George and Darrell .

I will be putting in an order for some Bflex`s and Maxflex`s when the maxflex is available :grin2:

Question when and if the bflex goes into direct drive I take it there is no battery protection either so if left it would suck the batterys dry.

or would it still switch off at a preset voltage.

Question when and if the bflex goes into direct drive I take it there is no battery protection either so if left it would suck the batterys dry.

or would it still switch off at a preset voltage.

Given the uController runs to 2.7V it will still be fully operational at any realistic voltage that bFlex is run at.

Thus, if the voltage reaches the user configured 'cutoff' voltage it will turn off the switcher core and will NOT suck the batteries dry.

There is no "direct drive" as such, if the input voltage drops to within around 1V of the current regulated output voltage it will go out of current regulation. Some folk call that "direct drive", but it really isn't - it's basically not in regulation and the output will no long be current regulated. Output voltage will drop, the LED(s) will get dimmer and at some point the switcher core will fail to light the LED(s) at all.

I assume that's what you're asking?

cheers,
george.

I can hardly wait.

Re: UI-uni for bFlex and maxFlex2 ... NOW SHIPPING!

.... Get em while they`re hot ....

Thanks George :)

And... zero stock again. Boy there was a bunch of folk just biting at the bit to order them.

I have given the assembly house the go ahead to run a large batch of drivers (after checking out the first 40 pretty closely for a couple of weeks).

Later next week I should have plenty more in stock.

And... Happy New Year to all!

cheers,
george.
