USA & European made light bulbs

I have some General Electric brand PR-2 bulbs,

still in their original blister 2-packs, from late 1970's.

They are clearly marked as " Made in USA ".

Point of interest . . . .

They have that distinctive "metal prong" support,

(hard to describe. But if you've seen it, you know what i mean.)

I believe i've ONLY seen that in General Electric PR bulbs. No other brands.

Was that a big advantage, perhaps ?

Maybe for (physical) shock-resistance ?

Anybody know any specifics ?

Yes, the metal support is indeed inside the glass envelope.

I've always wondered what the story was.

Seemed to be a GE exclusive.

I believe most PR-2 bulb production (at that time)
was by Phillips, in Holland.

Although, Chicago Miniature Lamps made 'em in USA, also. (i think)

Now, they're all made in China, to the best of my knowledge.

Hope this info is helpful.

Out of curiosity, I went through my ziploc baggie collection of PR bulbs. All of the Osram/Philips halogen bulbs are labeled as 'Germany'. I have 2 and 4 cell bulbs that are so labeled. Sorry, they are no longer in their original packages and can give you no more info than this.

Would you be willing to sell me some of them?

Sure. PM me your address, and I will send you all the PR bulbs I have labeled 'Germany', assuming I can find my reading glasses again. In exchange, of course, for your gentleman's agreement to make a 'generous' donation to CPF

I should also say that I have no idea how old they are, but they certainly date back to BEFORE I ever heard of LED flashlights.
