Using emergency cell phone charger as emitter driver?

I have a 1 AA "emergency cell phone charger" and I was wondering if it was possible to take that chip out and use it for an emitter driver? I tested mine, it it was putting 5.5 volts out from my 1.2V Eneloop... so, anyone try this yet?

You should test it under load, 5.5v without anything connected is not enough information. But it might work !
