Hi all, I am looking for a edc (pocketable) UV light that uses AA, AAA, cr123a or 14500, rcr123a.
Basically it'll be used for checking of invisible ink (like those used in nightclub entrances), checking of bank notes and checking of scorpions would be a plus point. In terms of price point, something below $50 would be nice with at least two stage brightness, low for near viewing and high for further viewing (at least 1 to 2 meters ahead for walking and checking of scorpions at the same time).

I'm relatively new in terms of UV light and its needed wavelengths required for the above needs but I'm guessing all of those can be done using the same frequency?
Would appreciate any help I can get! :)

There are several threads going on relating to UV lights and the different waves needed to light up specific things. I think you would be looking towards the 365nw end of things. I am not sure how small you are looking for, but this ARC is small and UV. www dot arcflashlight.com/arc-aaa-uv.shtml

I might suggest that you look into the Streamlight C4 Night Com UV, it has (3) 365 nm and (3) 390 nm UV LEDs, along with the a main white LED. It is on sale, at least at one place right now, at under $40. They also make a 3C version, but I have not tried or used that one.

Hi mcorp,

I'm currently using my Streamlight NightCom UV to cure Norland as we speak. It has been in my EDC rotation running off 17670s and it is quite a versatile light. The mixed output UV LEDs are not the highest output, but it should serve your purpose well for that price point. If you want higher output and don't mind paying more, you might also want to check out the NiteCore CU6.

How powerful are the UV LED's? By the looks of it, they all come on at once? Can you use just the 365's or the 390's separately? Hoe does it pick up the fluorescent items?

Yes RI Chevy, they do all come on at once, so no, you can't select 365 or 390. What I have used mine for, it does work well.

Hi jonwkng, thanks for your suggestions! I don't really need that much output so the streamlight should be more than ample:) seeing that your also from Singapore, may I know where you got your streamlight shipped in from?

Ah yes Norland..I'll need to find some Norland and a 1.55 x 5 mm green trit for the Mako, such a hussle! Any chance you have any spares I could buy over from you?

You should look at the Tank007 365nm UV, either the 3W or 1W version. Might actually get it within a week ..
