I was watching a Crimson Trace Laser Grips promotional DVD and one of the shooters had an odd flashlight that he uses with his pistol.

He holds the light in his left hand. It looks like he makes a fist with his thumb on top and that is where the activation button is. The flashlight body looks like it sits outside of the fist infront of his fingers/knuckles.

I don't have a screen cap. By will try to get one. Any ideas what this could be?

Gotta link the vid (not hotlink, just url)

I second that GS.
It's an expensive implementation of a diving 'goodman' rig.
the 'task light' on the inside of the hand interests me, it could be a very practicle feature.

Interesting light, but not really for me. I'll mount my weapon lights on my weapons, thank you.

I'm sure it would take a lot of rounds to get your pistol aim back to normal while using the light, and then you have to compensate for having it in your hand or not.

Also, looks clumsy if you're not expecting to be using it.

there are always pros and cons and personal preference. I too prefer to mount my lights on the weapon. However two major flaws with that:

1: Opposing force tends to shoot at the light. By having it weapon mounted, obviously you will be an easier target.
2: Under search and destroy room sweeping, where ever the light is pointed, you are also pointing a deadly weapon at potentially something you do not want to destroy.
