I have been a long time purchaser and user of a variety of Fenix lights, but they are the only brand I know well.
My 80yr old mom was visiting over Thanksgiving and used my Fenix UC35v2 and told me she needed a good light like it, but perhaps a little bit smaller.
She lives in rural New England and goes for walks in dark and takes out trash at night, looks for bears first, power failures every month or so, etc.

I think the UC35v2 ($90) would be perfect except:
(1) Would be nice if a bit smaller easier to put in pocket, but not so small it is fussy to handle or easy to lose.
(2) Too many modes and mode switch is hard to find in the dark. Just off with low ~50 lumen and high ~500 would be ideal. Or three modes... No need for a turbo mode. But too many modes will not be a deal breaker if easy to use.
(3) If powered on by a side switch, the switch needs to be easy to find in dark with gloves. (Fenix side switch only lights are not) Complicated button sequences are not ideal.

In Fenix brand I am leaning toward E18R ($65) as it is small, but it doesn't hit on #2 and 3 above.
The 1000 lumen UC30 ($53) is close too, but doesn't have a tail switch and the button is hard to find
The 300 lumen RC05 SE ($55) is not a great value and harder to find now. Maybe that is the one?

But outside of Fenix there must a high quality brand making a ~2 mode easy to use & carry rechargeable light.

(sorry I meant to post in the 'recommend me' sub forum. I tried to delete this post, but can't find the option to do so)

I'm happy to move this thread for you, but in that forum we would ask that no outside direct sales links be posted ... sorry, Chance ;)

This is one of my favorites. Currently on sale/15% off.

That is a nice little light. Now I need one for myself ;) Ideally however for my mom would be USB charging without having to remove battery. Then again she is used to fiddling with batteries on her hearing aids.

I don't care where it is, but I just don't want to ruffle forum member feathers.

Those mini USB sockets are very fiddly for elderly hands, and they are an obvious failure point.
That Foursevens Mini is a cracking idea, plus Jason's a good bloke and stands by his gear.

Seems the Fenix E18R is similar in size to the Promethus Mini MkIII, but the Fenix can be charged with magnetic port.

Streamlight Strion may fit her needs. Tail cap activation and rechargeable. A little longer than you asked for. The switching and charging are simple.

In the same size range you have the Olight S1 mini or at a little larger the S1r is rechargeable.

Thank you all. I ended up getting her a Fenix E18R. Worst case if she doesn't like it I'll take it and get her a different one. :)
It seems very similar to the S1R ii.

I actually like (for her and me) that E18R doesn't have memory and starts up in moonlight mode. I have a UC35 which has memory which means that I have to remember to turn it to moonlight before going to bed (especially when camping). Now when I turn it on I cover the head until I get it into a low mode.
