You must be gutted about the brass wee going missing.
Would it be worth writting to the post office and offering a reward to anyone who "found" it and handed it in ??
Tempest UK08-04-2007 03:42 AMRe: Wee New light From Lummi (Part 2)
Having used the Wee for a bit now, and compared the output to some of my other torches...I'm having a hard time believing it is 50 lumens
It is a LOT dimmer than my HDS B42...more comparable to my Orb Raw on low (15 lumens) just slightly brighter. Certainly seems more like the 25 lumen version. I didn't specify an output when I ordered, but that was when it seemed that all the units being made were 50 lumens
Isak Hawk08-04-2007 04:27 AMRe: Wee New light From Lummi (Part 2)
Maybe it's 50 lumen before loss due to optics and temperature and such?

I hope it is the 25 lumen model you have, im anticipating good things with this light when i get it. I do hope im not dissappointed. I have the 80 lumen model on the way. :sigh:

I'll try and get hold of a camera to post some beamshots compared to a few other lights. Hopefully someone else (25/50/80 lumen versions) can do the same.

Bear in mind the small reflector, allot of the lumen's are in the spill.
Tempest your Wee NS is 50.
:thanks: Sasha for starting a new thread

Thanks for the clarification
Don't want to give the impression I'm not happy with it...quite the opposite
This also makes me want the 25 lumen version, funnily enough
Hodsta08-04-2007 05:49 AMRe: Wee New light From Lummi (Part 2)
Just has a thought - it looks like the Wee should fit in the Surefire SC series of spares carriers - if anyone who has both SC and Wee could check and confirm that would be a real bonus. Imagine, whole spare extra flashlight in your spares carrier.

Fits just fine in my SC2
DM5108-04-2007 06:17 AMRe: Wee New light From Lummi (Part 2)
I've tried it in an SC1 (the 6-cell one). The Wee fits OK where one of the 6 cells would go, but not in the central recess designed for a spare LA, because there are 4 "fins" there to grip the LA. However, it would not be difficult to drill out these fins, and then it would fit there very well.

Should fit anywhere that takes a CR123A cell - think a CR123A is a 16340 - i.e. 16mm diameter x 34 mm long - the Wee is 14.5mm diameter (widest part) x 34mm long.

Holy crap i knew it was small, but its not till you get it in your hand you realise how small.
It is bright, but the beam is all spill, so it wont appear that bright until you look at the LED. Yeah i do it every time. :duh2:

Fits fine in the SC1 instead of a cell but will also fit in the central recess bulb carrying part if you drill out the fins.

Didn't measure the current and I don't know how flat the cell was but it charged for about 40mins before going green and it didn't get even slightly warm. I feel happy charging it in this charger.

Why it is that you do not make a flashlight that uses the small N cell? That way you wouldn't have use a rechargeable battery and it would be a lot easier to just throw a new one in and be ready to go. It would still be small.

Because a 1.5V alkaline N cell would require a boost circuit to drive the LED while a 3.7V (4.2V peak) Li-Ion cell can drive an LED directly or with only a simply resistor in series. The boost circuit would require space and make the light larger. Also, the tiny 10180 Li-Ion cell is much smaller than an N cell.

Rob isn't really designing these for the regular consumer market but more for the specialist collector/enthusiast market. Let's be honest, who else would pay £41 up for a tiny keyring light. He is attempting ( and in my view succeeding ) to get the maximum light output in the smallest size possible with the simplest form. All this packaged in a very well designed and top quality product. To use an N cell would require an additional electronic circuit, would double the size of the light due to the circuit and the larger cell, and it would be unable to produce 80 lumens or, I suspect, even 50 lumens due to the N battery not being able to supply enough current.

It's tiny!

My lummi collection so far:

Mcgizmo's for size reference (not really though, I'm just showing off
):

I'd say it's a little dimmer than my T-bin Raw NS. The hotspot isn't very tight so it doesn't appear as bright as it actually is. The threads are by far the smoothest I have ever come across, nothing even comes close :twothumbs
This is an amazing little light, great work Rob

It's actually just oxidized, I thought they all looked like that after a while? I haven't been EDC'ing it much, so the oxide layer hasn't rubbed off; I guess that's why it's so thick. I like my matte NS
Now what's this I hear about sandblasting?

I am glad to see these are arriving this week.
Isak Hawk, Interesting Finish on your Raw NS. Looks like One I sandblasted???

Rob, I was very pleasantly surprised to receive my Wee today -- I hadn't expected it until next week. It's a beautiful piece of work and ridiculously bright for its size -- well done!

It's actually just oxidized, I thought they all looked like that after a while? I haven't been EDC'ing it much, so the oxide layer hasn't rubbed off; I guess that's why it's so thick. I like my matte NS
Now what's this I hear about sandblasting?
