I can appreciate a decent 18650 powered flashlight
but was not aware "there's a forum for that" level of obsessives!

I have re-chargable Nebo, Schumacher, and Braun flashlights.
I also have a Ebay $20 LED headlamp.
Also a Milwakuee 18V Lantern.
They have all served me well.
What is your favorite light? What is the "must have" you tell all your friends?

Now am wondering what else I am missing out on.
I want to come up to speed here.
What are some essential threads to read?

What do I need, that I don't know I need ?

What are some big popular ideas on this forum?
The big philosophies.

Welcome to the sight.

Your initial post here is pretty complicated.

It really boils down to what floats your boat when it comes to flashlights.
Tools or toys?
So many brands it's really hard to pin down which to talk about.
The big idea these days has seemingly gone from maxing out brightness to more pleasant tints and more acurate colors of objects lit by an LED light.

I must have a light on my keychains, something EDC sized, a headlamp, a thrower and some high CRI floods.

Multiples of each to accommodate all kinds of batteries JIC of a survivalist scenario.

Oh and a lantern definitely, a BLF LT1. Thinking about getting a second one actually.

Do you have an easily portable light that you can carry in your pocket wherever you go? That is the #1 light you can have.

There are a ton of options that can fit that role.

Is that backwards? I LOVE 18650 LEDs. I will never buy another regular battery incandescent again. The Maglite has not been used in 8 years!

The majority will think this way and are right...Just like why do you need a watch when you have a phone.
Flashlight enthusiasts are in the minority, just like watch and knife enthusiasts.
The general rule of thumb is the more flashlights you have, the less ***** you're getting...obviously I'm an exception.

At the end of it all, flashlights fill a need and/or serve a purpose.
For some, the purpose is a need for light. For others, it's purely a hobby.
Some folks like the artsy aesthetics side of lights.
Some folks like the power performance that a lot of these import lights are pumping out.
Some folks get into modding and find it fun and somewhat cheap to do.
Some want to support small USA businesses that are crafting lights.

When you dive deeper into the niche, you'll find specific lights are better suited for specific tasks. Then you'll find you prefer certain tints, then you'll find you prefer certain tints for certain tasks...and then before you know it you have irrationally rationalized why you have several lights.

The 7 big philosophies I have are:
1) Buy American flashlights
2) Squat twice a week
3) Deadlift once a week at the end of your back day
4) Eat like a dog to turn into a wolf
5) Legs feed the wolf
6) To get big you have to eat big
7) Salt your pasta water

Lift heavy and go to failure.
I don't.
I'm a 4x4 diesel type.
Preaching to the choir, my man.
I've probably been doing free weights for longer than you've been alive, son.
Now enough with the lifterBro schtick, and back to lights, please
