What can be driven by 1xaa? (want to mod an Elly)

I have an elly lying around and I was wondering what I could mod it with. I am completely new to this. For example, I was wondering what would happen if I were to try to power a Q bin Cree with only 1 AA?

I'e not tried this with a cree but i have tried it with luxeon's and some other LED's and they did nothing. You could try and get one of RV7's driver boards. I have heard alot of good things about these and have a couple in my possesion but i am getting the parts together for a head torch but have not had the chance to power up with the board in place yet. These driver boards coupled with a Q bin cree are supposed to be crazy bright.

an Elly?

How about desoldering cheap Star, getting the screws out, mounting Cree/Seoul/Rebel Star, soldering it in?

No need for another driver
PS: without driver nothing will happen with a led from a single cell

The Elly already has a Driver to raise the 1.5v to the 3+ v of an operating white LED. If you wire a Q Bin Cree to the driver and turn the light on, it will light up. Any LED under 4v operation voltage should work.

Swapping an energizer lithium 1AA will allow the stock board to pull higher current. I have an elly modded with a P4 and it does quite nicely for a 1 watt light. ( it pulls .85 amps at ~ 1.5 volts and I fudge by estimating 80% efficiency)

It's brighter than my S bin lux III at 3 watts.

An Elly can drive a Seoul with impressive results. I tried it with a CREE P3 when they first became available, and it was brighter, but the tint of that particular LED and the typical CREE ringiness made me switch to a Seoul LED. It was very nice for an inexpensive light.

A made one with an RV7-board and a Q5... impressive when driven on Nimh high capacity cells, not so impressive on alkalines...
I guess it touched the 150-Lumen mark on Elite1700 Nimh´s:D
