What is Fraen LP, NX-05 etc?

Hello,

I'm a newbie in flashlight world, just got my first flashlight "P2D-CE Q2" few weeks ago. Every friends of mine was shocked about the huge amount light coming from the 1 battery toy. Of course, the price also make them feeling crazy.

After reading hundreds post in the forum and surfing through many online shop. I want to ask a stupid question. What is Fraen LP, NX-05, Acrylic Ball or other similar optics? Is it a replacement of lens? or sitting between reflector and lens? What kind of effect can we get from them?

I think most optics like the Fraen ones replace the reflector(an the lens if you aren't worried about scratching the optic). Optics tend to focus light to a spot with none to minimal side spill.
