What light of yours has the whitest tint?

In order of "whiteness" according to my eyes:

1. MagLED 3 cell in a Mag 3D. I really won the Luxeon lottery with this one.

2. TnC KeyLux AA 350.

3. MagLED 2 cell in a Mag 2D.

4. Tie between Surefire G2 LED and 6P LED.

5. A no-name 5 watt Luxeon 4 c cell light.

I have others that have really good tints, but these really stick out to my eyes as being the whitest. What I've found interesting is that a light that I used to think was very white, now seems either a bit purple or green. This happened with my EverLED module. It also happened with a Mag 3D modded with a Luxeon III by a CPF'er a couple years ago. It now looks sickly green! Do LED's typically change tints with age and use? Or is it just because they are being compared to a light that is a bit whiter?

What are your whitest tinted lights according to your eyes?

The individual tints of various lights make no real difference to me, viewed one at a time they all look white, it's only when compared to others the difference becomes apparent, I usually only use one light at a time so I've learnt not to fuss too much over tint. I used to worry, but how important is it? For the white wall hunters it may be important, but it's been quite a while since I've seen a light with a really objectionable tint.

None has.

When viewed alone on a white wall, there are some that seem to be perfectly white. Until you shine another one of those "perfectly white" lights on the same wall simultaneously. The inevitable fact is that one will have a tint now, more likely, the two of them will.

Which leads us to Size15's rule about LED lights:
Do not compare white LED lights on a white wall. None will be white any more after the procedure. :D

Which is why I stopped caring for tint long ago, and I feel better now.

My "whitest" tinted LED is some oddball Q bin'd bare emitter I used to "upgrade" an Arc LSH. For some reason, this one turned out to be less blue or less green than anything else I've got.

Not that it matters. LEDs have weird spectrum lighting. If it weren't for the other many advantages of LED, I much prefer incandescent lighting.

If anybody cares, my Surefire KL4 and U2 (on high) look powerfully white on their own, or even compared to each other. Compare them to just about anything else and it is clear they have a lot of green.

My HDS U60GT looks white by itself too. Compare it to another bluer LED, and it then it looks a hair green (but not as bad as the U2 and the KL4). My HDS B42 is very cold blue, even by itself. I've got a RY0J sandwich in a Minimag, and it's much bluer than I would ordinarily like.

My Fenix L2D Cree is pretty neutral (white). I've got a Lumapower M3 which has an obvious green cast to it. The Jetbeam C-LE is slightly blue.

Again, I think it all comes down to the luck of the draw. I'm sure someone else could have the same lights as me, and they would all have different tints to them.

Hell if I know...or care really. I have so many led based lights that if I started worrying about the tint of every one I would go crazy. I used to care a lot more than I do now.
I have a couple which some people would consider white. They are U60GT HDs Edc's. my novatac is pretty good too.
'It is such a hard call since they all look good until you start to compare them to each other.
I remember a time when I cared about this more than I do now and I set out to put together a matched pair of kl4's. an ALMOST IMPOSSIBLE FEAT TO DO ESPECIALLY if you were able to match them as nice and white tints.

So the long and the short of it is all of them and none of them are good.

I can't really say. The other problem besides some lights being seen as white until you compare them an a white wall, is the fact that the human eye can see 100's of thousands of shades of color. Some say over a million. Your eyes/brain will adapt to the light so long as the hue is within reason. To keep yourself happy about your LED illuminating devices, don't compare them. :grin2:

Now, if I had to give you an answer, I'd say it was one of my Sam's Club Elements. The older 1.25-watt (stated) Luxeon w/the side push button. I got a 2-pack. The other one was green! :nana:

My "favorate" tinted light is my D-mini SE. No visible blues/purples/pinks/greens in it. The D-mini Q2 digital had a great tint as well.

I also like my Inova T3's beam because it is a nice shade of purple that reminds me of K-State....Go Wildcats!!!

Words of wisdow, Bernie.

I´m gonna stop the comparisons, or I´ll go crazy.
I just don´t know who said that LEDs have to be always white!

My TLE-5ex minimag upgrade from terralux. It has a Cree. My second whitest is a cheap Cree based light from Lowe's I got for $30. I think it is a "Wrok Case" brand.

I had a Elektrolumens Blaster 1D with Seoul P4 led, which had the whitest beam that I have ever seen.

Probably my T-1, even though compared to and incan it is a bit blueish. Like many have said already, I don't really care. As long as it's reasonably white, thats good enough for me.

Some of my older Luxeon lights are very white,
My TWOH modded M@G and My Fenix L2D-CE
are among the whitest and surprising my 36 X 5 mm Multi- LED Light

It's a tie between my TiPD-S and my TiPD-S Mizer, both look perfectly white no matter what light I compare them to. They don't look green compared to my blue-ish tinted ones, nor do they look blue compared to the greenish ones. They also have the exact same tint when compared to each other, at least I can't see any difference

Mine all look white on their own. I only notice tint when comparing lights side by side. I use to be picky about tint but not anymore. As long as the tint is not too far on the cold or warm side then I am happy. To answer the OP's question, my Nitecore DI on high is the whitest tint I can see out of all my lights.

You ever notice the cheapest "gimmick" LEDS are the blue LEDS.

I'm talking about the ones you see on TV.

I mean, why blue? Is it to make people think they have something completely different then regular incandescent flashlights and to "associate LEDS with the color blue"?

My moded DX $10 light got the whitest tint, previously it was a rather white-blue when driven by single AA. I replaced the driver and run it with 14500 now it is really white..
