What's happening with my P3D Rebel 100?

Hi,

I've just been playing with my P3D Rebel 100 (from the very first batch) and comparing it to my P2D Q2 and I've noticed that my P3D seems to have dimmed considerably compared to my P2D Q2. It has also developed a distinct purple tint as well.

I don't remember my P3D looking like this before. If it'd had this purple tint to start with, I'd have returned it to Fenix-Store and requested if a better tint would have been possible.

As for the brightness, I'm sure that the P3D was originally brighter than the P2D Q2 because that's why I decided to ECD the P3D in my jeans pocket and leave the P2D in my jacket.

Does anyone have any ideas as to what is happening? I'm pretty sure that I'm not imagining it :)

As always, many thanks.

Hi Marduke,

Thanks for the very quick reply.

Do you have any more info on this recall batch?

I don't know anything about it.

Thanks again,

From Fenix-Store:

All Lumiled's Rebels are discontinued due to continued problems with them. We did try
to resolve the problem with Lumileds but there is no resolution in sight. For those who
have rebels, don't worry - we fully support those products and will resolve any and
all problems should any be found.

All L1T/L2T V2.0's RB80's will be replaced by Cree XR-E Q2's and all other
premium model RB100's will be replaced by Cree XR-E Q5's.

Ah, that could well be the problem then.

I'll contact Fenix Store and see what they say.

I'm sure David will sort me out.

Thanks again, everyone.

I just spoke to Fenix-Store about the above announcement. According to the young man answering the phone today, the only problem he knew about with the Lumiled Rebel is Lumiled can not supply Fenix with enough Rebel LEDs for their needs. Their was an unexpected demand for the Rebels considering the Q5's offer more lumens. To date, this representative Fenix-store claimed they have not experienced a single Rebel failure. I also spoke with lighthound.com who have a few Rebels left. They also claim they have yet to experience an LED failure, and confirmed the supply issue problem as the reason for Fenix switching totally to the Crees. I suggested to Fenix-store that their announcement is then confusing since it suggests replacements may be needed.

The big question is whether Fenix used any of the LED's that are under investigation, or not. Otherwise, you would figure that a LED failure rate of 10 to 30 percent should have shown up very quickly at both Fenix-store and Lighthound. Are they being candid when they say they have had no problems? In any case, it appears that Rebel LED production has been halted until Lumiled can figure out for sure if the problem has been fixed. It is understandable that Fenix can't deliver any more Rebel lights.
