What's wrong with my G2?

Hi everyone,

I bought a Surefire G2 incan a while back, and I went to use it earlier today and it is REALLY dim. In fact, it is dimmer than my xenon Mini-Mag. I changed the batteries last week, and dropped it while doing so. Could this have anything to do with it?

I don't have a meter, but the SF123's were bought brand new from Lowe's earlier that day.

You may have ruined the lamp assembly when it hit the floor. If you have installed new batteries and get the same result try a new bulb.

That happened to my new G3 Led - try gently cleaning the tailcap end of the barrel - any dirt or corrosion there will interfere with good conduction.

Check the bulb, does it look discoloured? Bluish or white?

If so, you've cracked the glass envelope.

As stated - get a malkoff!

Thanks Nzgunnie, it's interesting you say that. When I first dropped the light, I could swear that the lamp looked black-ish, like what an incan home lightbulb looks like when it burns out. I turned the G2 on, but it still worked. It has always been dimmer than my G2l, but a Mini-Mag, really!?!?

If you prefer to stick with Surefire P60 lamp assemblies, you can find them dirt cheap in the CPF Marketplace. With so many people transitioning to LED's the P60's are very inexpensive if bought used. Most have not been even turned on other than for testing.

Also if you didn't lock out the tailcap when it wasn't in use, it may of been accidentally activated, therefore draining the batteries.

Thanks for the tips, everybody! I may just have to buy some P60's used. Also, I pondered the fact about the tailcap being accidentaly activated, but the G2 sits on my desk, bezel-down, with the tailcap pointing up. I may just leave the light as-is, because my parents hinted at a Lumamax coming my way for my b-day!:twothumbs
