Where can I get a good channel charger for AA/AAA that is:

1) mobile (small form factor) which plugs directly into an outlet that can handle 2-4 batteries

2) mobile for use with USB that can handle 2-4 batteries

3) desktop for a larger number of batteries for use with outlet

I'm a newbie and just starting to get familiar with various stores/sources. Been learning tons - thank you all for the excellent information and advice.

Anyone have any ideas for other mobile (USB and regular plug) and desktop independent channel chargers AA/AAA?

Hello Mountainwalker,

If you are willing to compromise in your USB and size requirements...

The Maha C-9000 is worth looking at.

A cheap / compact travel solution would be the Titanium TG-700, http://store.advancedmart.com/tipotg700aab.html . It plugs directly into the wall with no AC adapter to worry about, works off of 110-240v AC, and comes with a car cord for charging on the road. It's an independent channel with -dv termination.

To be honest, its not one of the best chargers out there, as it tends to heat batteries up and has been known to miss termination occasionally, but because of it's simple and compact design, it's the charger I would take along if I were going to be living out of a suitcase for a couple of weeks.

I have the Energizer USB charger... slow, very slow, but is delta v. Independent charging cells, seems to be gentle enough on the batteries, comes with an AC adapter so you can use it with USB or AC. Only a 2-cell charger and you can only charge AAs or AAAs at once. I know it's a little bit larger, but some of the Maha 4-cell chargers (thinking like the 401) aren't much larger. Even the 800s/801 chargers are about the size of 4 of the Energizer chargers in a 2x2 grid.

I use one of the Duracell Power Gauge chargers myself. It's got independent channels and uses an actual smart circuit to tell when the batteries are full (if I put a mostly or partially charged one in there it runs for much less than one that is completely drained). It also plugs in directly with no wall warts to mess with. It's also fairly inexpensive and comes with a set of 1700 mAh cells that perform more like 2500 mAh ones. But it won't run off USB, sorry.
