I'm having a hard time locating some of the LiFePO4 3 volt 14500 cells. DX is out of stock now. :(

I've also checked with AW and BatteryJunction.

If you want to risk it...
Kai also sells LiFePO4s now. Beyond that the other sources I know of require a minimum order from a manufacturer in China.

I think qualitychinagoods might have some. I know they have LiIon 14500s, not sure about LiFe. Otherwise it's either Kai or wait until DX has them again - they are a pretty hot item so they usually have plenty of incoming stock.

I hope someone has a better answer, but it looks like an AW-138 3.0v/3.6v R123 charger. Then need a battery adapter to fit it. I haven't found the adapter online, but it's something Radio Shack used to sell.

What do you mean by if I want to risk it? I did a search on them with nothing to really speak of...

Kai, just like DX, can be incredibly unresponsive to issues at times. While at other times I've gotten replies back in 15 minutes. Playing with those places is a gamble imho. I've still supposedly got a Kai D Li Ion cell somewhere (been missing for months now). You'll usually get your stuff form them, and usually gt the proper stuff in your order, and sometimes it will actually be decent quality. But how long it takes is anyone's guess. "In stock" items have taken weeks to "collect from supplier" before. While in general they are good deals, there is definitely some risk involved.

My quick take on DX is that they are ok. I have placed 2 orders with them, and had a problem with both orders. Both problems were corrected after a few emails, but quite a long time for shipping of the correct item.

Am I correct that the only inexpensive option to charge 14500 LiFePO4 is the 138 charger AW sells with a battery holder attached for the 14500?

What do you guys use to charge these 14500s?
A Hyperion 5i AC/DC RC charger. DX has one that is functionally identical but less expensive and a bit weaker, but you don't need fifty watts to charge cells for flashlights.

As for the sites in question, my experience is as follows:
DX have always, and I mean always, answered my inquiries about products, have twice given me replacements for free and have once re-sent a lost item even after I'd admitted to losing the receipt slip that came with the first part of the order. Ok, it *was* a $4 item, but still. They were also supportive when I got a product that worked less than splendidly and wanted to replace it with a different model - though in the end I kept it out of sheer laziness.
They also tell you when they ship, if there's trouble in shipping, and so on.
This in at least ten orders.

In contrast, my orders on KD (all two of them) were acknowledged, and then I had no further contacts with them. Both items eventually appeared in my mailbox more or less at the expected time, but I was left completely in the dark in the meantime.

Based on this, I definitely prefer DX - although their selection of cheap mp3 players is vastly inferior when compared to KD. In contrast, DX's selection of RC stuff is superior to KD's (last time I checked). For everything else the availability seems to be more or less equal.
