which is a better thrower...?

I am wondering which will throw further... the Dereelight DBS 3SD (High mode) or the Mag Mod P7 by elektrolumens, or the Malkoff Triple LED drop in head?

I want distance in a small compact package. Thank you

Forget about Multi-LEDs, they are miserable at throwing light at far distances, they are pure flood. The P7 is also mediocre at distances. The DBS is clearly superior, it was designed with that sole purpose in mind.

Blanket statements such as "they are pure flood" should be treated with a great deal of skepticism.

Statements such as "clearly superior" need qualifiers.

Does the DBS throw exceptionally well? Yes. Will you find it as useful at a distance of, say 300ft as, for example the Lumapower MVP or the now discontinued Solarforce T700? I don't think so. The DBS is essentially a laser. If that small a hot spot is useful to you, then by all means, enjoy.

User Jirik_cz has a series of beam shots that illustrate the point better.

Best regards,

Well, "useful" is a very personal and completely subjective term. The OP didn't mention anything about usefulness (for his intention of use, which none of us knows). He only mentioned "which one throws further?" Well, the answer to that is, without a doubt, the Dereelight DBS.

If a "laser" beam was such a major disadvantage as you implied, then spotlights, HIDs and large reflectored incan lights would have no reason to exist.

Cheers

If you looking for compact size why are you considering a Magmod P7 (which uses a 2 or 3 D mag host) or a Malkoff 3 led that uses a Mag 2D-6D host? If small size and lots of throw is what you need than a Dereelight DBS V2 (@ 6.5 inches) is your best choice.

The DBS produces the tightest beam, but as others have said, that doesn't always translate to the best target illumination at certain ranges. The MVP is known to be quite respectable in the throw department, producing almost 3X the lumens as a DBS the wider beam is still achieving significant lux numbers on targets at surprising ranges. The DBS and other similar lights have their place, like spotting addresses and impressing non-flashlight-enthusiasts who are all fascinated by how far it throws with no care in the world about usefulness.
