Hi, just wondering what should be the current best led emitter to upgrade my Cygolite Hi-Flux 100. I saw another thread where someone upgraded to a Soul P4. Also if you know a good place to get said emitter please let me know.

Thanks so much!

The beam patterns are different so the crees may not be a good match for the optics you have.
Check what's in there now, in case Cygolite are putting the brightest LEDs in already.

Re: Which LED emitter to upgrade my light

Thanks! Is this a better choice than the Q5 or R2?

If the light you have now uses a Luxeon LED, then the Seoul would be a closer match for the optic.

The Cree Q5 and R2 put out more light than the Seoul LED.

Yeah, it uses a Luxeon III led. Do you guys mean the spread might be different? I don't know if I have to be too concerned with that, it has a pretty wide angle and I'll probably be using a second light.

Viewing angles
Cree=90
Luxeon III=140
Seoul=125

So you can see that the Luxeon and Seoul are a closer match in that aspect.

You can purchase both and test them out, and use the one that works the best for this application. Then you can use the left over LED for another mod.:devil:

Cool, I think I'm going to try out the Q5 (works well for my fenix) first, the light I have comes with a second lens to increase spread and I'll be using another light probably helmet mounted.

As you can tell I'm a little new to this, do I have to know anything other than desoldering the old one and soldering in the new one?

Thanks again!

Is the old LED on a star?

If so, I would purchase the Cree mounted on a star, especially if you have never soldered one. It does not have legs like the Seoul LED.

Yes, looks just like this (stolen from someone else's CF thread and post upgrade):

I found another thread that mentioned using arctic silver, never used this before, is this necessary?

It looks like they used thermal paste, since the star is screwed down to the heat sink you should not need to use artic silver epoxy.

Just buy the Cree mounted on the star. By the photo above, it should be a direct swap.
