I've been looking for a new light for walking my dogs on my unlit road.
I understand that the MC-Es won't have the throw that others have, but I like the idea of lighting up the whole road around me.
I've been waiting for the Malkoff MC-E (to use with my Surefire C2) to become available and in the meantime I've been reading alot here.
Now - I don't know what to do - too many choices out there.
Should I wait for the Malkoff, maybe a Legion II, or one of the many others (Tiablo Ace, Fenix TK40, Dereelight, etc.) coming up over at the dealer's corner:confused:

I found that the CL1H with the MC-E at 2.4a lights up nearly as far as the R2. You get a blanket of light nearly out to where the throw of the R2 touches. I have not needed it to throw any further yet. Love it and if hand held outdoors no worries about heat. have a Nailbender direct drive on its way so will see how that compares.

dang do I get around or what?

Just for the record wbp took all the beamshots, I was just junior assistant that night, and brought a bunch of lights to add to the party.

However, the real purpose of this message is to say that as much as I like beamshots and I posted all of these to do a comparison of the Legion II, they don't really do justice to most of those other smaller lights. For the sake of comparison to the Legion II all the exposure settings were originally set around that one. I was able to see all those targets with the SureFire E2DL but you can't judge that by the picture. I am not saying run out and by the SF E2DL, I am saying that beam shots of such a wide power spread at 100 yards don't really tell you the full story. If I was just doing a comparison of lights in the 200 lumen range which I have done, this would have been a much different set up and they would not appear to be so dark as they do here.

If you are looking for something in the 700 plus lumens class that will run for over 2 hours rock solid and give you a wonderful beam spread, It sure looks like the Legion II is a great way to go. What was I using to walk around that night and set up my targets and then go retrieve them?

A Malkoff M60 Flood at 200 lumens was a fine walking around light. The Fenix T1 set down to 60 lumens in "low" mode was also a fine walking around light. I had used both of these that night. I still really like the M60F for a general purpose see my way in the dark type of light using a 2X17500 battery set up, not to big or heavy.

Since the Neo LII can be turned down to various lower levels, it is a great multipurpose light. Don't have to run 700 plus lumens all night long. Its a great option. Just got to want to lug 1.2 pounds around with you.

If only it had that all important less than 1/2 lumen mode so you could still pretend you were trying to see in the dark when you have a 150 to 742 lumen capable light in your hand that you didn't actually want to turn on, then it would be perfect  (you know who you are) :poke:.

The Legion II seems like a great light, but 1.2 pounds is a lot of weight.
Maybe I'd be better off to go with the Malkoff or CL1H

Shhhhh :sssh: If you visit KD , they have put a MC-E into a Ultrafire C-1 :tinfoil:

Well, it can still be a thrower depending on the application. I have a Tiablo ACE, and that sucker will certainly throw. Not like some incans, thats true, but it still throws a big fat hot spot way out there.

In the Malkoff, which I also have :), its 100% flood. Sorta like a Surefire L4 on steroids, it lights up your immediate area and out to 30-40 feet (thats very subjective) very well.

Thanks for those suggestions!!
Guess I'll have to think about it some more (its going to take a little time for the Malkoff or Legion II to be available anyway).

I'm personally on the fence between the Eagletac M2 (which is an SSC P7 not an MC-E) and the Neofab Legion 2. If I had the money my third choice would be a Malkoff I think. But both the Neofab and the Eagletac need to be available before any rash decisions can be made. :D

One of the nailbender MC-E drop ins that electric sheep mentioned came to my house today and you would be hard pressed to find a nicer bright/warm beam anywhere. I would recommend checking it out.

I have no interest other than as a happy customer.

Thanks - I found his post - all out of the MC-E right now - maybe he will have more soon.
The EagleTac looks interesting too - I hadn't read the post before - I just saw the plastic and skipped over it without reading that they would be metal.
