I read the ROP page and it was saying that it can give out 5oo lumens for 2 hours.. I'm a bit confused here as there are many configurations given in that page...

Which of it is the one that gives the 500 lumens for 2 hours cos that would be the one that I would be very interested to read up more on??

Does that mean i will need a long M@g casing or can it be a normal 2D or 4D m@g casing??
Hi Tessaiga,

It actually means you need a 6D maglite.... Basicly you make the normal ROP but you use NIMH D-Cells as your batteries... 6 of them at 1.2v gives you 7.2v which is needed for the ROP.... personally... my ROP setup is a HA ROP HI 2" FM Bezel 2C Maglite w/ 2x18650 li-ions.... Its bright and still lasts for .... 25mins... You can stash a bunch of extra 18650's if you really need more runtime.... or go the 3C route and go Mag85 once AW gets the hook...

Feel free to keep asking questions.... It can be a little bit confusing at first :) Welcome to CPF!

Thanks for the welcome.. still very confusing... but I will try to settle one thing at a time..

Casing... which one do I get?? the 6D maglite that you mentioned is the long one that puts in 6 D cells in series???

Correct. That way you can put six D cell NiMH batteries. At 8000-9000MAH each, So, That's 8-9 amp hours. Vs anywhere from 1.5-2.0 Amp hours out of Lithium Ion 3.6v cells, With Lithium Ion cells you get a smaller light. With the NiMH D cells you get the long runtime. It just depends on which is more important to you.

Why not start with the super easy and low cost 3 X primary CR123A lithium cells and a 5 cell krypton Maglite bulb in a 2C or 2D and see how you like it?

No need to fuss with replacing the stock reflector or lens with this setup and the run time is pretty decent.

You get bigger Mag performance in a package that is only about nine inches long with the 2C.

A flashlight like this would make an excellent starting point and you'd be pleasantly surprised at how useful the darn thing is in real world (not white wall hunting) everyday situations.

Sounds good... only problem is that I don't stay in the States.. am in Singapore actually... and I don't know if the stuff that you guys talk about can be gotten over here... and if I have to get it from the States, I want to know exactly what it is that will give me what i want so that i only have to order it once and don't have to keep shopping around and chenaging and tweaking it..

Hope you guys see where I'm coming from...:D

So how many lumens are we talking about, with 3XCR123A and the 5 cell bulb and for how long???

Here is a link to the fantastic CR123A 2C MagMod and bulb info thread.

There is a TON of info there and it will take a while to go through it all but it's well worth the effort.

The thread features some bulbs that draw up to 2 amps (and need an expensive metal reflector and glass lens) while the 5 cell krypton draws only 750 milliamps yet compares very well in the beamshot pictures when you take this into consideration.

Well, in a 2D size you can use a rop low bulb and get an hour runtime, though I am not sure about the lumens though.

hi fellow islander,

me ponder earlier on this topic too and ended up with a ROP 2c using 2X 18650 and RO lo bulb. this flashlight resides in my car for inspection duty.

As the reflector and bulbs had to be ordered for overseas, the easier option is to get the 3XCR123 and the 5cell bulb. The output is still very decent. Get the CR123 from Mustafa as their prices are abt $7SGD plus for 2.

I get about 250-300 lumens with my ROP low bulb in my 2D with 2x18650's.
