I tried the first two Energizer headlamps and didn't like the design...the clear plastic shroud over the LEDs exposed them to my eye glasses causing a glare. That's not the case with their newer 1 watt/3 AAA/spot, flood, night vision model headlamp. All three modes work quite well for me as I use it to sit out on my balcony at night to read (So. Ca). The spot and flood operate independantly, but not together and both are quite adequate. I found the two red LEDs allow me plenty of night vision illumination, even to read by. I have not found very many headlamps with the forward red LEDs for my purposes. I paid $19.95 at Target and found it to be a good value at that price. I power mine with Duracell rechargeable, 3 AAAs at 1000 mAh, (no tool or coin necessary to open battery compartment).
I'd like to hear from anyone with this unit and their observations and critiques. Some of you have to have tried this bugger out, what do you think?
