i've read a few posts complaining about the complexity of Fenix's digital series (i.e. P2D) and preferring the L2T/L1T v.2.0's simpler interface. This doesn't make sense.

The L1T/L2T has on/off clickie and low/turbo controlled by turning the had.

Well, the P2D is the same. On/Off clickie. Low/turbo controlled by turning the head.

All P2D does is to ADD a few more levels if you hit the clickie more times. Well, you DON'T have to use these extra functions and you then have the same interface as the L1T/L2T . Plus you can get the premium Rebels or Crees on the P2D series.

No brainer for me unless I want the Tactical switch or reduced cost on the L1T/L2T. I think the extra options are money well spent as I can ignore them but have the option of more functions JUST IN CASE I want it on my EDC for the rare occassions. (i.e. flashing light pointing at incoming traffic at night when I have to change a tire on the side of the road.)

I have read that some people do not like that you can accidentally touch the button and change modes. This has happened to me on another light. I do not know how sensitive the Fenix buttons are but I found it annoying at times accidentally changing levels and then having to cycle back to the level you were just on. This may not be a big deal for some but for others it is. I personally like things simple and I am happy with my L1T v2. I do not mind UI's as long as they are set up like an HDS or Novatac where your extra modes such as SOS are only accessible through an options menu.

I've got both a L1Tv2 and a L2D100. I like all the toys on the L2D, but the switch mode is too sensitive. I think it could be improved greatly by adding both a memory turn on function and a press and hold for 2 or 3 seconds to change modes instead of the slight touch it takes now. If you don't keep your fingers off that switch, you're always needing to correct it. The stupid strobe right next to the turbo mode is a pain. They should just have Turbo by itself in the system they're using now. They should move the strobe next to the SOS.

The L1Tv2 is easier to work with.

Ah, points taken. I'd note that my switch is stiff enough that I don't accidentally change it. Anyways, P2D interface for us.

If you switch of your flashlight, just to to notice you forgot something and switch it on again and find out you're now in the next mode, then you'll know the difference.

While playing around some flashlight UIs seem to make sense, but in real life things are different.

I would think it's the same reason I'm not too fond of my smart-phone. A lot of nice features, I can do a lot of things.

Well, it's just a little cumbersome as a regular phone.

Some people simply want on off, maybe off, dim, on.

A design is perfected not when there is nothing left to add, but when there is nothing left to take away.

Don't forget the possibility to use forward clickies on L1T/L2T. The P2D/P3D would change between Turbo and Strobe if you switch on/off fast.

yeah stepping from low to medium when you turn off then realise you need it back on again is fine by me, but the turbo to stobe is annoying when accesed by accident. +1 for turbo on its own.

Well, you DON'T have to use these extra functions and you then have the same interface as the L1T/L2T .

you have to use medium or high, because if you use Turbo all the time, it might burn out the light, as in my case (supposedly)

paulr - sounds snappy, but really, that would mean the original single stage light is already the ultimate as there's nothing to take away from those design. I think it's really a balance - nothing to add and nothing to take away. Not being debative but trying add a balance.

My favorite two Fenix lights are in fact the L1p and the P1 CE. They are both one-level lights. The P1CE has the best build quality of any Fenix that I've had so far.
