Why do I want another flashlight?

It's not logical. I don't need another flashlight. Am I mentally ill? I like the idea of a Nitecore P30. I don't need one unless I can find a use for it. It would be really nice to have one. But why?

Anyone else get this kind of problem?

Welcome to CPF. I have 150 at least I dont need. It is a sickness, dont try to figure it out just buy the Nitecore. :naughty::party::paypal::welcome:

And so it begins.

What if the light you have got lost, stolen or broke. You'd buy another probably. Yet you'd be lightless until then. So you buy a second light now (like that Nitecore) and you'll never have that problem.

The illness begins when you have purchased a light that will never break, get lost or stolen that you paid several hundred dollars for it because it is so awesome it will never need replacing and you convince yourself a third one of those is a good idea. Then it is "oh just one more" until you can make a 4' high CPF logo out of flashlights on your kitchen floor outta flashlights from one of your flashlight shelves in your den. In my case a bicycle……

There are a lot worse habits (I've had them all) this one is pretty harmless, and God for bid if you ever decide to ever stop well you can just sell them. [emoji16][emoji106]

The age old question, why do I want another flashlight? The key word is want. Not need. Most if not all on here have more lights then they could use in a lifetime. If I used one of my lights till the batteries were dead and threw it away and grabbed another in my collection and so on and so on I would still not need to buy another for over 10 years! There's nothing wrong with getting more lights even when you don't need them. All lights are different and have different features. Hell, a guy I work with lives alone and he owns 4 vehicles.

Twenty three? I thought that forty two was the answer to everything.

How many towels do you need? (answer: 2  )

The key word is want. Not need.
Indeed! A wise saying: "the cost of anything is the amount of life you exchange for it".

"Amount" = the time you spend on earning the money for / searching / buying / storing / maintaining etc the stuff you own - including flashlights. Which means less time left in your life to spend on other things like necessary chores or the 'fun stuff'. Whatever that is in your context.

Which sounds serious, but isn't! It just means that you should get some 'value' out of it in exchange. If you had to work for like an entire week  to pay for it, and then it doesn't do anything for you beside sit in a box, or (worse) you just waste time on maintaining it / moving it around from box to box, that is some of your life wasted even if you got it for free. And continues to do so even if it just gathers dust but you keep it around.

But if you can easily afford it, it's useful to you, helps you get things done easier, safer, faster or better, or your usage of the light is part of the 'fun stuff' in your life, then it's okay. Just decide wisely in which category a potential next purchase really is.

As for the "why you want more?": MARKETING! And hanging around on CPF... :D

Because I am a flashoholic. Flashlights change the way that I feel. When I abstain, withdrawal symptoms set in. I don't like my world view and my life view. The world and its people are wrong. Things and places are wrong. The ills of the surface of the planet are unbearable.

Then, all of a sudden, in an instant, life is great, as soon as I am buying another flashlight. I have to have just this one more added to my collection, because it is the same size as an Olight S2 baton, but 4,000 lumens. Do I really need it? Yes, but not because it fills a gaping hole in my collection, but because when I decide Yes, the world is suddenly ok/fine. People are instantly not that evil, and some are even very, very blessed. Earth is suddenly not that bad of a place to have had my spirit take flesh. In an instant, life is something to be all jazzed up about.

But there has to be more, because tolerance sets in before too long. Next, there is a X65 in my collection that needs current, hot stuff SBT-90 emitters, instead of year 2016 XHP35 emitters that are drearily obsolete. The universe that my soul was created in is not good enough until that flashlight gets its emitters upgraded.

Because you are like the rest of us. Insatiable gear acquisition syndrome. Delete your account, unbookmark CPF, and leave forever. Otherwise there's no hope.

And don't get into photography either. Or knives. Or guns. Or headphones. Or fidget spinners. Or keyboards.

I already have a problem with watches, hi-fi and tools. Photography a little bit. Luckily I can't afford a car collection. Got an old SAAB 9000 Turbo and an MX5 Mk1.

Anyway, back to the hunt for the next flashlight.
