Why is this so cheap? Fake?

The text on the blade does look like a thinner font but I can't say anything for certain.

At that price I think I'd take the gamble.

Knifezilla is run by the guy that used to run Blade Auction. He sells knock offs and originals. I have bought cheap crap from him and high end quality knives. Never had a problem with any purchase from them, and I made plenty.

As to if that is a knock off, i'm not sure. I know S&W knives can sell cheap. They are not real high quality unless you get into some of the switchblades they have made for them. I think the knife you are looking at is made by Taylor under the smith brand.

Kershaw Skyline is G10 and made in the USA. Retails for about $35 at Walmart and less on line. It seems like a Taiwanese knife could be a lot cheaper than that.

And for $40 you can get the OD-1, $50 gets you the Zing. All this at Walmart, and all made in the USA with great quality and materials. So I agree with cave dave, you can do better than that.

S&W does not really have the best reputation for knives, sadly. But then again, neither do any of the other firearms manufacturers I can remember.

I'm willing to spend around $100.00 if it means getting a higher quality knife that will last. I appreciate all your suggestions. Plain edge or semi-serrated is fine. Under 4 inches is required, per NYC knife laws. This will just be an EDC for general tasks.

You might want to go to Paragon Sports in Union Square to see what kind of knives are out there. Their prices aren't as good and the stock isn't as big as online retailers, but their staff is friendly and knowledgeable.

H&K does...mainly because they're Benchmades....

They have a fair amount of Benchmades, but I don't remember if they have that HK model.

I think I found what I want... This thing just looks plain mean. http://www.notyourmamasknives.com/M...Axis-Black-Blade-Combo-Edge-Tanto-Black-G10-H

If anyone knows where I can purchase one of these in person (Manhattan area) please let me know.

That looks extremely tacticool:p

Not the most practical design, but if that is what you want Benchmades are usually well made and well regarded.

I prefer Spydercos, but everyone has their favorites:D If you have a chance I'd try a Caly3, Delica or Sage from Spyderco.

I just hit the jackpot.. as far as a store in Manhattan that literally has EVERYTHING. From LED torches, to production knives, to the rarest customs. The site is nothing to brag about, but check it out anyway. Some of the customs they carry are gorgeous.

Talk about a complete 180... After doing some research and delving into that which is handmade/semi-custom knives, I have decided to go with either a Strinder SNG or a Hinderer XM-18. Both of these knives are absolutely gorgeous, not to mention can take one hell of a beating. I have no doubt I will be happy with either one.

I am leaning toward the Hinderer, as I have a contact that will be able to hook me up with a brand new one for stock XM-18 price, but I am curious to see what you guys think.

I appreciate any comments or suggestions you may have to offer.
