Ok I was bored today so I put together a light for my work bench out of parts I had.. Here are some pictures, the light is made from a DX E27 DIY LED enclosure which I have found to go great with some round heat sinks I have. It is attached to some 1/2" locline. I have a toroidal transformer putting out 12 ac at 1 amp. the box with the switch contains the rectifier circuit along with a CC circuit driving the LED at about 900ma.

With the head/lens unit off to show the LED.

I'm assuming that's a 450 lumen'ish Bridgelux. How warm does that enclosure get?

It's a 400 bridgelux "neutral white" and it gets about 130F tops... I left it go "accidentally" over night and it never got much above 135F, which according to the data sheet is well under the 105C tops for the heat sink... I had ordered a cool white, neutral white, and warm white to see which I liked better for lighting, so I had this neutral white one laying around..

I like your project holder thingy Base with the peg holders. I think the thingy is called a hand vise

I was going to ask what sort of heat sink you had on there at first- I was thinking about asking some folks at work if they could turn some of my 1/4" copper slugs.

Unfortunately the DX sink is just a hair too small to take the copper pipe cap- I was willing to try anything to increase the heat capacity of the units so they'd have a better chance to radiate.

Thanks, gotta love Harbor Freight! lol

I got the round heat sinks from here...

I'll have to look at those enclosures because I have some projects involving 10watt blues for accent lighting, and they might be just the ticket using them as pendants.

It might work... considering that when I tested it overnight I had a bridgelux 402 in there driven at about 1 amp which by my calculations was at about 10watts P=E*I where P=9.8W. course you could always add another round heat sink on...
